[QUOTE="dnuggs40"]$50 says he was playing starcraft[QUOTE="Crucifier"][QUOTE="Orcishman05"]5 bucks says he was playing WoW trying to get a ton of PvP honor or trying to get his arena rank up or something stupid.Whermacht02
Yup, that's where my money would be as well...
Yep... My money would be in the "he was playing Starcraft" bet...
I third this bet. Starcraft seems to be REALLY popular their.wow this is what really pisses me off. people saying asian gamers are stupid. i live and go to school in shanghai. to all those idiots who think they can generalize that the asian population are pathetic and stupid when it comes to gaming, how the hell can you even begin to generalize when your taking around 200 cases a year out of over a billion chinese people? how is that a representation eh? and to that australian guy. your saying that "henious crimes over video games" are being commited in china. dont give me that bull **** you think that doesnt happen in places in europe, oceania, and the americas? and dont back that up with "it happens more there". so what? if you take the ratio of cases to population of australia to china, ill bet my ass that australia is worse.
And self restraint? control by the government? these are definetly issues that need to addressed, but i cant see how you can talk about computer game addiction like the chinese are fools for not being able to stop it,when so many westerners are over dosing every day. i really dont see a big differences between the two situations.
IM NOT SAYING IT WASNT PATHETIC AND WRONG, im just sick of a number of posts portraying asians in such a negative way. hopefully this will even up your bias a bit, for the people who obviously have a very narrow scope of vision towards less developed parts of the world.
to a lighter side, i go to gaming centres all the time, and let me just fill all of you in. there are 200+ computers in a majority of the centers, and most of the time theyre full. how can anyone pick out a guy thats been there for 3 days? these places are open 24/7, and i know for a fact that people play through the night, as well as the day. second point. almost every guy or girl (yes, girls play too) brings in their own food and drink, e.g. two bottles of water, food, noodles, etc, and they serve food at the centers as well. i think starvation or thirstis pretty damn unlikely. exhaustion is definetly my guess.
oh and btw, starcraft is popular in SOUTH KOREA, (YES THERE IS A DIFFERENCE, to all those fans of miss teen south carolina) in china, most people who are playing games, (which in gaming centers most arent e.g. chatting, watching movies on the internet etc.) are more often playing local, 2d online games, or the chinese version of WoW. second by observation is dota, or TD on WC3. there you go. i think starcraft just lost, it doesnt have the addiction factor that WoW does to the chinese.

Haha....calm down man.
Regardless of what the cause of a mans death was, I can't help but feel sorrow for the guy..
As much as I believe he was wrong in his doings, it's hard for me to understand that not even a Internet Cafe owner nor anyone who knew him as a family or a friend or even a person next to him could not had done a single thing... At least to talk to him or tell someone else..
He was ignored by his own human beings, that's the most pathetic and sad example of humanity.. This goes for all countries, nations and religions..
This topic should be locked, to many childish responses.

Rediculous...this guy was a pathetic example of a human...and according to you it's the people around him who are actually the pathetic ones.
Maybe he didn't have any friends? Maybe he has distanced himself from his family due to his obsession? And like the other guy said, there are houndreds of computers in these centers, with people constently rotating in and out of them. Maybe nobody simply noticed?
Please don't damn humanity and call everyone else pathetic for this loser's actions. He alone is responsible for his own well being...not a bunch of strangers...
You're correct, the next time I see a older person fall when crossing a street I'll walk by her/him as that person isn't even there regardless if that person is in pain because "They" are responsible for their life..
That's ok, everyone have their own way perception of life standards.
I only blamed those who "did see him" and didn't do anything about it, which includes the cafe owner. You think those who saw him and are now chit chatting with friends : "Hey, remember that guys in cafe! he died! Like, i saw him there three days, what a loser!"
Just like you don't give a darn about him, they didn't give crap about a person who was in cafe for 3 straight days and nights. No one noticed him? I'm sure that's the case, after all it's easier to keep running away from problem or an issue then to do something about it.
This post is not towards you in any way Dnuggs, I stated my opinion. You should respect it, as I respect yours. And don't try to insult me on Internet forums, I have much higher regards for you then that. :)

That example about the old man is not relevant. I am sure when the guy crumbled over people took notice. No where in the story did it say that people ignored his dead body...
Most likely case was nobody knew this guy was in there for 3 days straight and that his life was in risk until he was dead.
"No one noticed him? I'm sure that's the case, after all it's easier to keep running away from problem or an issue then to do something about it."
How is anybody to know there was a problem until it was too late? What if nobody knew who he was, and how long he has been there? Nobody is "running away" from the problem. I think the case is nobody knew there was a problem until it was too late. He made the descision to do this, nobody else is responsible for his actions, especially total strangers.
"And don't try to insult me on Internet forums, I have much higher regards for you then that. "
I wont, and you are right. If I insulted you, I apologize. I don't take these forums too seriously, and you seem to be a very nice person. I will keep all further conversations with you civil :)
Maybe you're right, it's hard to tell from our perspective if trully anyone saw him get ill until last minute. It just kinda irks me inside that a man had to pass away the way he did..
I also apologise if my words were harsh in any way, they certainly didn't meant to. ^_^
I've heard of this happening all over the world, from some parts of Europe, to the US, to Canada, to other parts of America, Japan, etc. I find it od how they just let him sit there for 3 days, but who knows. As was said before me, "let us pay tribute to him and may his screen name live forever."Valramil
Really? I'm probably just ignorant to the fact but I've never heard of any gamers dying except for koreans and chinese.

The only American that I have heard dying from games was that kid who commited suicide from playing everquest. And even then, it's pretty arguable that the kid was probably just messed up, and the game had really nothing to do with it. But I have never heard of a person dying like this anywhere other then in asia.
Could be wrong though...
Listen closely you racist piece of trash: The reason you see headlines about gamers dying in internet cafe's in asia is because of poor reporting, or poor translation of said reporting. The chinese government has never been exactly honest with its headlines. And what a great way to coerce the public to work and not play than spreading stories about how MMOGs can kill you. The truth is that playing video games for X hours straight is NOT LETHAL. It cannot kill you. Some sort of heart condition must be in place for someone to die simply for not getting a night's rest. Otherwise, Air Traffic Controllers would be dying by the 100s every year, campaign managers would too, as would most accountants in april. The fact is, many many people have skipped a night's sleep to work, play or otherwise engage in some sort of tiring activity.
I am frankly amazed at the level of stupidity in this thread, in just about every post. Cmon kids, use some common sense.
Who are you talking to? Nobody has said anything racist...
"And what a great way to coerce the public to work and not play than spreading stories about how MMOGs can kill you. The truth is that playing video games for X hours straight is NOT LETHAL."
Obviously this is not the case, hense this person we are reading about is DEAD. Of course it wasn't the game that killed him, it was sitting there for 3 DAYS not sleeping/eating properly/ect.
"Some sort of heart condition must be in place for someone to die simply for not getting a night's rest"
Try THREE NIGHTS REST. And of course this person was not healthy...does anybody think this was his first 72hr game-a-thon? this was probably a long term thing for him, coupled with not taking care of his eating and sleeping habits.
"Otherwise, Air Traffic Controllers would be dying by the 100s every year, campaign managers would too, as would most accountants in april."
They don't work 72hrs straight, nice try though. they are mandated by law to have times where they can sleep. good grief man...
"The fact is, many many people have skipped a night's sleep to work, play or otherwise engage in some sort of tiring activity. "
Nobody stays up for THREE CONSECUTIVE NIGHTS to work. not to mention, this was probably a PATTERN and not the first time he did this. Who knows if he just got done with another 3 night binge. Plus I can't imagine his eating habits were normal.

Wow...the irony...
This is the problem with China...NO REGULATION! We take this stuff for granted in the States, and we might hear some story like this and then the business would get, in most people's opinions, unjustly sued but the fact is if we didnt have these rules everyone would be dropping like flies in internet cafes.
China put melanonin or something in animal feed to provide false highs of nitrogen content...they put crap in their toothpaste. WTF, China, have some self control!
Three days...thats rediculous!
mrbojangles25
That was a joke right? You know, like China being a communist state, as in having a single-party system, as in being a police state, right...?
"This is the problem with China...NO REGULATION!" That's rich man:)
why does some people always love to generalize things? yes a Chinese man died because of his own "stupid" but that doesn't represent the Chinese people are stupid! Oh yeah, btw, a American gunner gun down several students in school does that means Amercan people are ALL student killers? I dont think so!
Focus on the case, and that's all
yes am a Chinese, and i know that happen in those Cyber cafes, there are people that hanging in internet cafe all day long, the moment you went in they are there, and the next time you go, they are still there. oh, they do eat and drink, judging from the bowl and empty bottles next to them. They are not consider to be NOMARL in China as well. but i am pretty sure this happens else where too. You actually think those people in WOW have full epic gears have a normal social life??

Nobody is saying that all asian gamers are like this. It's just as far as I know, asians are the only ones who die from gaming binges.
It's a cultural phenomenon that seems to only be present in Asia. It's very peculiar/different/pathetic/unexpected to outsiders.
Americans generalize everyone because we're so far removed from any culture but our own. Don't take it personally. It's just how the TV brings people up.
Even though a billion people live in China that gives no excuse to the government to get rid of people this way or any other way, they just have to put more laws regarding overpopulation (i am sure they don't have enough already). Chinese people (i'm talking about the hardcore gamers)should do more with their lives than just playing on the computer day by day continuously. They should better invent a less addictive game than die in an internet cafe.

The Chinese government already imprisons some citizens who decide to have more than one child. They murder entire families in "more remote" parts of China. The prisoners have their blood type and genetic information recorded so that when they die/are killed their organs can be sold for major bucks.
They're pretty strict about population. In fact, they're by far the most strict nation in the world.
