Yeh 3GB is best for Vista ... i'd go for 800 just cause it's faster if you want to overclock your CPUAnubis_386well i have a budget of max maybe 125, well i have about 140 but tax and shipping. so what would you recomend. has to be from newegg cause i have gift certificates for there.
Well if u get a 2GB dual channel kit then a 1GB stick the 2GB will be in dual channel mode and the 1GB won't ... That's the way to do it reallyAnubis_386so that wont result in proformance drops from say a 2 gig kit(2 one gig sticks) and a one gig kit(2 512 sticks)?

If you have 4 slots you could do 1GB x 1GB & 512MB x 512MB.
Personally I think that's limiting and in the future that 512MB x 512MB is going to be a waste. I also don't like using all 4 slots of memory, I'd rather just have 2 filled up. If you really want 3GB then get 2 - 2GB sticks :)
I know not every version (mostly desktop) of Windows can access the full 4GB, but it's close and I don't think the cost is that much different between 3 & 4 GB. The only disadvantage is most 2GB sticks aren't quite up to the speed of 1GB sticks which can be a problem if you are overclocking.
