Heyo,

I'm looking to buy a gaming computer for the first time, preferably pre-built, as I'm very short on free time these days, so I'm willing to pay a little extra.

I came across these in my searches, and while they're a bit outlandish as far as price goes, I'm curious if someone that knows more than me could tell me what the difference between these two rigs are?

http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-aurora-r4/pd.aspx?~ck=mn

I'm looking at the $2498 version vs the $3200 version. (Please note, I'm not looking to buy these exact ones per say, I simply want to know is there any significant difference in performance between the two in regards to their components?)

And would either of these computers be able to run games like ARMA 3 (When it finally comes out...) and Starcraft 2 on Max Settings?

Also, if I could find a cheaper version of the $3200 with the same parts, would it be worth it to buy, and is it a good gaming computer?

If someone could help me out with these questions, that'd be amazing!

Thanks!

Please don't buy Alienware. I know they're cute and the alien logo is cool, but you're overpaying a whole lot of money for poor craftmanship and a nice alien logo.

Main difference I can see is the SSD one is 256GB the other one is 512. Also one has SLI GTX 680's vs the 670 SLI in the lower priced modle.

This. The descriptions of the machines are inaccurate too. Neither have a 3rd gen i7, the cheaper one claims to have a 690 - only to then say it's 2 670's. Both are great PC's, only issue is the ridiculous price. You could build the same rig for half the price. Is that badge worth the extra dough?

I'm NOT buying alienware, I was simply asking about the components, and if they're good or not... Is there any real performance difference between a 670 and a 680?

Yes there is a performance difference. Usually the higher number means its better. Spec wise its good even if it uses an older gen GPU but value wise its NOT! You can build a i5 4670k CPU with a 770 for about $1500 or a 4770k with a 780 at around $2000. It doesn't take long to build it, I'd say half a day if you take your time. Most of it is installing and updating OS and drivers.

670 and 680 are now both pointless since a 770 is faster than a 680 and barely more expensive than a 670 (until shops lower 670 prices a lot)
