Its going to be summer soon and Australian summers can get pretty hot (not unusual for it to get up to 40°c), so I'm considering getting an aftermarket CPU cooler.

I'm expecting my CPU to start getting a lot hotter soon, plus I wouldn't mind upping the voltage so I can add the +.5 multiplier (to take it up to 3.6GHz).

I'm very restricted by room, so its been difficult finding ones to fit.

This is what I've picked out, tell me if you think any of them would be any good.

Thermaltake DuOrb

ThermaltakeBig Typhoon VX

Here are my current temps:

Idle

Under load (these temps don't really look right (I thought they would be higher), have I done something wrong?)

Are you limited in height in your case or what?

Height by about 15-16cm, width by about 12cm (PSU is a bit over 6cm above the center of my CPU).

Is your rear case fan a 120mm fan or capable of holding a 120mm fan? It may be worth it, if your budget allows, to pick up a Corsair H50 self-contained water cooling system.

Yeah, I considered one of those, but they're like $120, I don't really want to spend too much more money on this PC.

It's not really "spending more on this PC" as much as it is investing on a CPU cooler that will work on future computers.

Of those 3 the Big Typhoon is going to give you the best performance with the least amount of headaches. But to be honest with the temps you are getting now I dont think its necessary. Download Realtemp and run the IntelBurnTest again and compare the results. If your pc is staying under 60c under full load you have some headroom to make a minor increase in the voltage and multiplier to get the OC you are looking for. If not, and only if you are using the default heatsink, I recommend getting the Big Typhoon and some ICDiamond7 thermalpaste.

Thanx. Would you be able to rotate the placement of the heatsink any way you like? Its just that I have a big onboard heatsink that it may hit.

Nevermind about that, just found a pic of it installed the way I may have to do it.

if you can find one.. Arctic cooling freezer 7 pro.. idk what they would fetch over there but here in canada one is about 35 bucks.. ish.. MAN are they a badass cooler.

they easily take my core 2 quad to the land of ice and snow.. figuratively speaking of course. runs fairly quiet too,

Yeah, I've read good things about those, though I don't think I'd get one any cheaper than the Big Typhoon VX, which is looking to be my best option at this point.

How about Hyper 212 plus? It's extremely great for its price.

Thanx, but I think it would be just a bit too tall. I just made some templates, the Typhoon will fit, I'm thinking it should work pretty well for a top down. Big surface area, good fan, 6 pipes. Looks pretty impressive.:D
