I find it retarded to complain about 15 dollars yet apparently its ok pay 50-60 bucks for 6-10 hours of content. Talk about being stupid.

We hear how SWTOR have a million subscribers, by the time March comes around that would be cut in half. By the time next year Christmas free to play tier pricing would be announced to attract a million more that wouldnt come because of monthly fees.

guys i think i know why everyone hates monthy payments...

they are kids and dont have jobs and they dont think they can talk their parents into buying the game and a subscription...

now for those of us who have jobs and realize that at worst its 2 hours of pay a month for more many many hours more gameplay a month...not to mention that you will most likely not be buying other games cause youre busy playing wow/tor...its not a bad deal...now i know people are gonna say stuff like but cod u only pay for once...true...but...u only have so many maps...u want new ones u buy them...and whats more...ive had the past couple of weeks off...been playing tor since it came out pretty much 12+hours a day...been taking my time and enjoying the game with my friends...questings and flashpoints and rp...gotta say i havnt reached end game yet...and i havnt even visited all the planets...now i know im gonna be spending less time playing after i go back to work...but how many people playin cod can say the same things

What a terrible generalization. I CAN afford it, i simply dont WANT to. Its simply because its overpriced to me. And so what if its 2 hours of pay? You know i have other things to buy? You know, like rent, utilities, OTHER games, etc.? I dont want to pay an extra $180 dollars a year just to play my damn game that i paid FULL price for.

I don't see SWTOR going F2P any time soon.

What about free content updates and fixes? You aren't just paying once for a game. You are paying to be part of an ever-evolving world.

Sometimes it isn't justified because the certain content that has recently been added can't be played (e.g. certain locations/quests/items) that are only exclusive to high level players. So if you're a new player and you paid for the game you should be privileged to play ALL of the content you purchased then just pay for another expansion/add-ons.

While the charges may be valid, I still don't want to pay monthly for a game...so I don't get that type of game.

I generally aim to buy games with plenty of replay value (e.g. RPGs), which is also why I buy relatively few FPSs.

The idea deters me from buying games, but I can see why the monthly charge may be required.

Another problem is sometimes bad games command the same $15 a month fee that some of the best games in the MMORPG genre command. We should be seeing more $3-$8 a month games.

That would benefit the lazy developers that can't make a decent game, but in the end, why should you support bad games at all?

Eh as long as the games worth it I don't mind paying a monthly fee. Honestly $15 a month isn't a lot to spend on gaming if that's all you spend a month. It's cheaper than buying a new game every couple of months.

"Bad" is a poor choice of words. I'm talking about games that provide less value to the players than other games. Developers need to see that their game doesn't provide nearly as much value as others, and should not be using the one-size-fits-all fee of $15 per month.

Developers should use what ever pricing model makes them the most profit. They exist solely to make money. If "making their customers happy" translates into more sales and profits, they will do that as well.

I really don't see the big deal. If you enjoy playing a single game on a monthly basis to experience new content, then more power to you. Paying 15$ a month is far cheaper then paying for 50-60$ games.

I don't want to spend 250$ yearly on WoW, even if I do LOVE the game, so I'm content with private servers. ARR

SovietsUnited

Private servers also are against the WoW ToU and hurt the company, people who use private servers(in mmos)/cracks(to get free games) are the ones hurting PC gaming.

Nope, $15 a month doesn't bother me at all if I find the game fun. It's cheaper than buying a decent lunch and only a little more expensive than going to see a 2 hour movie. Actually, $15 for a months worth of entertainment seems like a fairly good deal to me.

Litchie

Even with people who have jobs $15 can still be quite hard. There are people who can barley afford to pay rent so paying a subcription to a video game isn't exactly easy. Also unemployment in the USA is very high not everyone is kids. Please stop being so ignorant.

What? He can afford it, so everyone else with jobs can too! Otherwise, they're like.. kids and stuff.

im an E5 in the army...not much pay...however i did get a free 4 year degree in criminal justice because i joined the army and used the gi bill...my wife is an elementary school teacher...try to tell me shes bringing in the big bucks...and she has 4 years of student loans to pay off...we decided that the game was fun and that instead of ordering a pizza one time this week we would have leftovers or a pb and j...also...i dont live in base housing so i have rent as well...and quite honestly from what ive seen growing up and being on my own for the past few years...there are a few jobs out there...but for the most part people arent willing to work them...i worked at a newspaper for a couple of years while i was in highschool...wanna talk about glamourous...walking out of work overed in ink and paper dust after 8 hours of stacking bundles of paper for delivery...fun stuff i tell u...at the time they needed more people at that company...however my friends wouldnt think twice about the job cause it was too hard or dirty or boring or whatever excuse they could come up with...now i know there are some people who can genuinely not find jobs...but there is the majority out there who are just waiting for that "perfect" job as opposed to working wats available...and 30usd a month between my wife and i is not that much money...seriously...its like a pizza and breadsticks...wow expensive...
