[QUOTE="lordlors"]No. In fact most of the great games i've had so much fun are boxed and the games i bought from steam are pretty boring. FelipeInside
LOL, I don't think cause it's boxed or digital makes it more fun or not.... What if you had bought one of those games that you had so much fun with from STEAM?

that's the problem. i can buy it boxed much cheaper here in Datablitz (Gamestop equivalent of the Philippines) than steam and i prefer having boxes and physical copies because it makes me feel like i really bought the games (piracy is rampant here in PH but there is a market for original games) so why should i go steam? The games i bought from steam are mostly old and because of high discounts and great promos.

Boxed games i bought: Crysis. Neverwinter Nights 2, Dead Space, Red Alert 3, Spore, Dragon Age Origins, Starcraft 2, The Witcher, Mass Effect 1 and 2, etc.

Steam games i have: Portal (i got it for free), Beyond Good and Evil, Torchlight, C&C3, Risen (the only game i bought $50 off steam), STALKER SoC, etc.

The only steam games i really had fun was BGE, Portal, and Torchlight.

When steam first started i hated the idea..Than as time went on an more an more games went to this plat form..Ive grown used to it over the years..As some one mentioned the manuals in the old days i miss..How ever im in a realisation that they're never coming back..So just pre ordered this week alone..Fallout las vegas, an civ 5..Id rather play with no cd at all than keep swapping cds..Im also pre ordering gothic 4 an two worlds two..Only box game im buying is the sims 3 late night..Some reason the ea store wont allow sims on steam...Ah well an im not buying from ea store online..Steam is nothing but awesomeness in my eyes..

I prefer having physical copies. I love steam's online store, I HATE steam's useless DRM.

I think I get an equal satisfaction from both. Being able to see how many hours you played on a game and having the number of games you own be public information is all pretty damn sweet. So those features make steam a big plus.

I do also like a boxed collection. It gives me a physical copy and thereby the means to save me bandwidth and time when installing games that steam doesn't offer if you download the entire game straight from them(though the process is alot easier on steam).

This is why I would very much like more physical game copies to use steam(that is the trend but its not moving fast enough for me : P ). It gives me the means to install a whole lot faster and save my bandwidth whils't also giving me a nifty boxed copy that looks pretty sweet on my shelf. Steam is great for making such info known to the public.

I also think it depends a lot on where you live and the type of connection you have. Me for instance have only 40GB x month, so downloading a 8GB game hurts......therefore I buy it retail or ebay....

I used to collect them, but with a smaller place and moving around a lot, I had to *gasp* throw some boxes away and just kept the CD's in a binder. Genius me forgot that some CD keys were in the boxes though...

Up untill the point in which my account got hijacked and I realized how little Valve actully cares about its customers. See if you can find a phone number for customer support. I enjoyed the steam content delivery system. Currently I am looking around for a new one.

Problem is, if they get ahold of your account. You still cant play online. If they get it VAC'd. You cant play any game affiliated with that account on a vac protected server.

Boxed copies look nice, but are ultimately bad for the environment.

I don't have a Steam collection so no. I prefer boxed games over DD

I have actually thus far never bought a game off Steam. I have bought one game off GOG.com and I am thinking about getting the Monkey Island special editions on Steam since its the only way I can find them so far. I just am very much against buying a game if I do not have a box + disc with it. Just my preference

You obviously didnt read what I sad. I said if someone gets ahold of your account, and gets caught cheating (the #1 reason for hijacked accounts is to test "hacks). THey get VAC banned, and steam will never remove that VAC ban. Meaning, if you get it back, you wont gt to play on VAC protected servers and the like.

I know alot of people like having boxed games as they want something physical and looks all nice when their games are on a shelf. But I am finding myself being obsessed with growing my steam collection ever larger. Anyone else more proud of their steam collection than their boxed collection?

NanoMan88
Count me in. I simply don't want to buy from anywhere else unless I can activate the game on Steam and yes, I'm proud of my collection. :D

I didnt do any thing stupid, 13 character password, never put it on a phishing site, never shared my details. BUt be oblivious if you want to, point is, if it happens, your up the creek for however long it takes them to fix it. Especially considering you cnat play ANY of the games.

I like Steam a lot. I've definitely gone more towards DDL's than boxed games, and with Steam, I have no disks to damage or lose!

I do miss reading instruction books though.

I include both boxes and Steam in my overall PC collection. I either get the game boxed or I get it on Steam. As long as I own the game, I'm happy.

1)If youre smart, this will never happen. 2) If this happens you will still own all of your games, and Steam just shuts down their authentication servers.

Well, seeing as I'm on a Mac, my Steam collection isn't too big (maybe 6-7 games), but I mean, I kind of miss seeing an entire shelf above my computer filled to the brim with boxes and manuals lying haphazardly around them, scattered about, that would bring back memories of great games. Now all I have to look at is a little icon. :(

Of coarse hes gonna say that... Hes not not to say your going to lose all your games in the unlikely event Valve folds... And they might even have a system in place. But things change. Valve could be bought out, Gabe will die or retire eventually... Given his weight the former seems more likely lol.

Physical copies are always my first thought when buying a game.

Even if a game on Steam is on sale, I still look for a physical copy that can match the price.

I don't get any satisfaction from it lol but it is nice to see my PC room all clean and organized without a bunch of cardboard boxes from games in a shelf, in short i got a lot more space in my room for other stuff now.

I never get why people buy from steam, you can't resell the game if you'r done with it.

not that i've sold many games, besides owning a boxed copy feels like really "owning it"

No.

I actually kind of despise Steam, but at the same time like what it can offer. If I had to break down how much I play my boxed version of games to my Steam digital downloaded games, it would be something like 10 to 1.

I rarely open up Steam, yet I've probably got 30 games on it (though my younger brother is responsible for my owning of most of them, through gifts).

Yup. I definitely prefer Steam to retail games. My parents aren't rich and I don't have a big house. I have nowhere to store my PC gaming boxes conveniently so it's either I have to put them downstairs, or I have to put stuff them in my drawers and make a mess. I prefer a nice big list of games. I hate having to keep around manuals with CD Keys and cases. It's all junk. I play games for the games, not for the material it comes in.

EDIT: On top of that you have to deal with losing and scratching CDs. It's way too much overhead for me.
