Funcom is proud to announce that Age of Conan is one of the fastest selling PC games of all time. More than 400.000 gamers have entered Hyboria over the last few days, with almost half coming from the North American market. This amazing figure for a PC game shows that the positive pre-order trend has transferred into actual sales, and people from all over the world are now flocking to the most savage, sexy and brutal MMO ever created.

Over the weekend an astounding amount of concurrent gamers were logged on to the game, making Age of Conan one of the busiest MMOs in the western hemisphere. With stock flying out of several retail chains, Funcom expects the number to increase in the days to come. In addition to the many gamers logging in, there was also substantial traffic to the Age of Conan websites, with more than 2,2 million unique visitors during the last ten days.

As a result of the great launch, players and press have been raving about the unique qualities of the game, and the first 20 reviews give Age of Conan an average score above 90%. The first US reviews are also live, with Gamezone.com giving the game an Editor's Choice Award, a 9.4 of 10 score, while heralding Age of Conan as a "Benchmark MMO". Sci-Fi.com was also an early mover and gave the game a straight A, stating that "If Robert E. Howard had been a game designer..., this is the Conan he would have invented."

"The initial sales and reviews are very encouraging, and it's great to see that so many are enjoying Age of Conan," said Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas. "This is just the beginning, and we already look forward to massive updates and cool new features. We believe our focus on making Conan unique and groundbreaking is a key reason for the initial success. This is a focus we will keep and reinforce, and players can expect continued quality and innovation as we enter a new era for the game."

Sigh, if only other none MMORPG games would sell like this there wouldn't be any problem with the PC.

Hopefully more money = quicker content updates and fixes, more in-game GM's and a quicker /petition response.

If they can manage that and get things rolling quickly, AoC can really do well.

I have very little faith in FunCom, so I expect to see the smoky ruins sooner than later.

I expected this initially, as this is really overhyped as most MMOs end up. But I doubt this will take off too much as the system requirements are really steep for the average player and by the time most people have a comp to play AOC they will be waiting for the next MMO most people cant play.

Ah yes, but because it's a subscription based game, once they have the serious gamers, with the hardware to run it (because those two typically go hand in hand) they don't need NEW customers. I think their problem will be retention though. From what I've heard the leveling is very quick, TOO quick. Maybe it'll get nerfed, or they have something fun for endgame that has yet to surface. Only time will tell...

As for the boobs, I don't think that was it, but the mature content in general helped, of that I am sure! The 20,30,40+ year olds gamers I know are fed up with the cartoonish crap we've been force fed lately...

I definitely wouldn't mind that. I was ganked at a respawn point and as a nice bug, I couldn't respawn anymore. I made a petition but according to the math I made, it would have taken over 24 hours for a GM to respond.

I know, I'm living in a dream world. :P

But imo, if they want to succeed in keeping all of these people past their 30 days free, they need to show us how competent they are.

^ Sadly, I would have to agree. I thought about this buying this game, but then I remembered how having a M rating doesn't affect the maturity of the people who play it at all. I think I'll wait for a trial.

rpg FAN, I was mainly talking about new games. Something that was released recently in the past year or so.

Didn't Crysis sell 1 million units in 2 months and Crytek was disappointed with the results or something? I don't know about the Witcher and The Orange Box sales but were they high?

This game has insane amounts of potential but im sorry a MMO with weak PVE content(based on multiple online reviews) is bound to fail, the reason WoW did so great was because its PVE content was extremely well done, you could do a different quest lines with each race. How ever from what ive heard in AoC, the quests are very linear and boring, and its the same quests whenever you start a new character.

Well MMO or not, I am very glad with AoC's success (and not just becuase I'm playing it). When Warhammer Online comes out later this year, I hope it does very well too even though I won't be playing.

Well MMO or not, I am very glad with AoC's success (and not just becuase I'm playing it). When Warhammer Online comes out later this year, I hope it does very well too even though I won't be playing.Gooeykat

WAR is the one I'm looking forward to. I hope for all decent MMO's to do so well. There seem to be quite a few that are great in principle, but for one reason or another, they get no fan base and plummet. I'm also hoping AoC continues to grow after the initial hype because I think it's great to have a seriously M rated MMO finally! ;)

Hopefully more money = quicker content updates and fixes, more in-game GM's and a quicker /petition response.

If they can manage that and get things rolling quickly, AoC can really do well.

I have very little faith in FunCom, so I expect to see the smoky ruins sooner than later.

agreed

Age of Conan probably have 800,000 subscribers worldwide by now. I wonder how many people came directly from WoW for this game.Jd1680a

the entire world MMO community is 16 million, of which WoW controls over 10 million. I don't see AoC coming close to 800k and I don't see Blizzard losing any sleep.

Didnt lineage II hold the REAL record of 22 million? or lineage ... or something like that.

[QUOTE="hikari33"]This game has insane amounts of potential but im sorry a MMO with weak PVE content(based on multiple online reviews) is bound to fail, the reason WoW did so great was because its PVE content was extremely well done, you could do a different quest lines with each race. How ever from what ive heard in AoC, the quests are very linear and boring, and its the same quests whenever you start a new character.kozzy1234

The PVE in AOC is great, i dont know what youve been hearing, but its just as good if not better then wow.

Maybe actually try the game first

he's right, it is the same quests for every class as you start? the game is an epic failure compared to WoW, you just refuse to see it.

You need to relize that people have there own opinions and that your "godly" opinion isnt always shared by others.

Thats wrong. Depending on your race, after Tortage you either begin in Cimmeria, Stygia, or Aquilonia.

Its clear to me that you, I and others here have firmly planted our views on this game, and dont plan on budging. Calling a game an epic failure when its just showed great first week sales, and oh yeah, only been out a week shows that quite clearly in your case.
