Are Call of Duty 4's servers still populated?

And if so, which patch should I be using? I remember reading something about not updating to 1.7 or something since more players are on 1.6. Is that true? Thanks in advance :)

1.7 is the latest patch and the one everyone uses. And I beleive there are more people playing cod4 right now than mw2. So yes there are a lot of people.

If you go on any game, there will be people on the servers.
Including COD1, MOHAA, UT1, Return to Castle wolfenstein, ETC ETC ETC.

And not everyone who plays those games are going to be coming on gamespot to look for these threads and say "Oh, I'm still playing this game", then leave and go on their merry way.
