After playing COD4 for about 30 mins, one of my CPU cores peaked at 60C and the other at 50C. When I ran Stress Prime 2004, one of my cores went up to 72C. Idle temperatures are around 36C

I'm using an E7200 with stock speeds on stock cooling. Should I be comfortable with these temperatures?

Do you think I'll be ok with these high temperatures for a few days until I get a new heatsink?

It is nothing to be overly alarmed about, however it seems really odd to me. You are idle at 36 but you can peak at load up to 72 .... I sit idle around 36 and i peak at load around 52 degrees with my CPU. I know it's a different cpu but it's a duel core wolfdale which yours is... just odd to me

Are you on a stock cooler? I think the crappy E7200 stock cooler might be causing the problems.

I was thinking of getting that, but I'm not a fan of the push-pin installation. Maybe my heatsink is crooked or something.

The push pins work fine, and not sure what heatsink Intel sent you, but the stock one i received with my CPU had push pins on it as well. And ya check to see that your heatsink is seater properly and that you have the proper amount of thermal paste applied.

And if it is the stock paste that came with the heatsink u could always buy a tube for 5 bux and reapply it yourself.

If I wanted to install one of those would I need to remove my motherboard?

no, you install it with the motherboard in place.

From my experience's the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro works well, and the push pin design is a lot easier to install than the Intel stock HSF.

I have had problems installing the Intel HSF on more than one occasion. While the ACF7P has installed like a breeze every-time I have tried it.

That's good to hear. I'm probably going to order one.

I have the same problems only more complicated.

Far Cry 2 runs smooth with everything on MAX for the first 5 minutes but then when i hop into the vechile and start exploring the African continent the game becomes no longer playable.
then it starts comeing back to life and lags again, ON AND OFF.

Dont tell me its my graphic card because on idle it runs at 50 degrees and after the game it runs 65-70 which is perfectly normal for a 9800 GX, I am thinking its my CPU on idle it runs at 35-40 degrees and after 10 mins in Far Cry 2 it jumps to 60 degrees.
I know the Qc6600 is the first quad core Intel made and I know its unstable however I was thinking of buying an after market cpu cooler (Asus Silent Square Evo) to see the difference.

My Specs are:

Asus Striker II Formula
MSI 9800 GX 2 1GB
Quad Core Q6600 @ stock 2.4 Ghz
Case: Antec 900
800 w Acbel Power Supply
1 500 GB HD
2 x DVD-RW

Note: antec has 2 front air Intake 80 mm fans, 1 rear 80 mm exaust fan, 1 top 200 mm air exaust and the power supply 80 mm.

Thanks in Advance
