are pentium D's any good

im wondering if pentium D's are good for gaming not great and yeah i kw core 2 duo is better but my socket won't support it so im wondering is it allright for gaming like will i get at least medium on new games if the rest of my rig is good because i want something to get me through till summer 08 when i get a job and here's the processor  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116254

That depends on what you have right now - but I'm curious as to why your motherboard would support a 65nm LGA 775 800MHz FSB dual-core Pentium D and not an Intel Core 2 Duo E4300. I'm also sort of curious as to when they made 65nm Pentium processors - did I miss something, or have they been out for a while?RayvinAzn

he's lying. in other threads he mentions that he has a x200 integrated chip and hes asking whether he should buy the x1900gt. stop lying, if you want help, dont post your fake setups. i have a question though, i dont know of any mobos that are lga 775 and support pc3200 so why were u looking to buy pc 3200 in another thread? what mobo do you have? be more specific and list all your parts including case, mobo, everything and list model numbers.SLI_Yoshi

People are hardware snobs, yes the Pentinum D is not as good as a C2D. But they are cheap and they still offer good performance. If you're going to get a new cpu only look at the end of line Pentium D's. The 940 (3.2) or a 960 (3.6) are nothing to sneeze at. coupled with 2GB of ram and an 8800GTS would be a good gaming comp for quite some time. Is it as good as a C2D system, no, but it will be hella better then what you got now. I wish i knew where everyone gets all this money for the latest gear, cause it doesn't grow on trees around me :(BigD

CHEAP!?!?!? the conroe e6600 is cheaper then the pentium D 3.6ghz.

In fact i rather get a conroe e6300 for 183$ then any pentium D.

So would I but his motherboard doesn't support a C2D... the 960 is only $30 more then the e6600... we all know that the C2D is better but he is limited by the system he already has, unless he wants to do a full MB/CPU/Ram replacement which is more costly then just getting a faster CPU. BigD

The Asustek Agena are OEM boards made for HP/Compaq They don't support C2D, follow the link.
