My question is is the 120hz 3D capable monitor really worth it if your not going to use 3D.What I'm getting at here is the 120hz still beneficial in regards to gaming? Or will itbe waste of money because there are better 60hz monitors out there for gaming. Return-Fire
If you're not going to use it for 3D then theres fairly little benefit to having a 120Hz monitor. While it still provides a sensation of a smoother image and you'll suffer from less screen tearing, theres an increase in input lag as the monitor has to create those interpolated frames.
Also do the 3D monitors suffer in other areas in terms of color and contrast ratio compared to it's 60hz versions, due to the manufacturer's trying to cut down on other tech to make the 120hz monitors more affordable?Return-Fire
Yes and no. TN panels are the only screen technology that can support such fast refresh speeds. TN panels have the worst color, contrast, and viewing angles of any LCD technology. Every sub $250 LCD has a TN panel - you're paying nearly double to have the lowest quality LCD panel technology. But TN panels are the fastest which have the lowest ghosting and input lag which permits 120Hz from being possible.
For the same price range of $500 - 600 you can get a nice high quality IPS or PVA panel. They both offer much better contrast, color accuracy, black levels, and viewing angles. You will suffer from worse input lag and ghosting though. In short, a 120Hz will give you the best TN panels out there...but for the same price range there exist other panels with better properties (in some areas) that may be more worthwhile for you.
My opinion? If you're not going to take advantage of 3D, you're money is better spent elsewhere.
