I might, I'll probably test it before hand.... And I might decide to keep the tester until I get a new computer pre loaded with 7.

Rumor has it that Microsoft will be offering free upgrades to all owners of Vista Ultimate, Vista Enterprise, and Vista Business. Not a ton of people fall into those categories, but it's something worth noting.

I will definitely get it. It has always been planned as the TRUE replacement for XP. Vista has always been, well, pretty much just a Beta of Vienna...

Windows Vista was a misstake. ;) Windows 2000 was a great OS, considered it was made by Microsoft... Windows 7 is what Vista should've been.

Did you even follow the progress of "Longhorn?" Vista was never meant to be bought by the masses. Sure Microsoft wanted to make money off of it, but it was always meant to be a test version of "Vienna." And it's not meant for old computers. Building an OS around old tech and dumbing it down would just hurt the hardware market and reduce the OS's lifespan. If your pc ins't fast enough for it, don't blame Microsoft. Either upgrade or stick with XP. The choice is yours...

Windows vista is great. iv had no problems with it what so ever. i can play all my games and run all my programs on it just fine. iv never had problems getting drivers working. windows vista is awesome. but windows 7 is just taking windows vista and changing a few things to make it look a little better. thats it. it still uses a crapload of ram and it still loads the cpu just as hard as vista. yeah it may not kill youre HDD as fast but thats no reason to jump to windows 7. i installed windows Vista onto my friends PC. its a little older than most but like MOST people he dosent have the money to keep on upgrading his PC. so i was like ok windows 7 was supposed to be better than vista. faster. so i got him the Beta. got all the updates and stuff..... still as laggy as vista. stil had the exact same problems on his PC that he had with windows vista... windows 7 is no better than vista. it just has some small features added to it that 90% of the people who buy it probably wont use em

Yeah, I'll probably jump on the 7 wagon. I have a XP/Vista rig now, where XP is only getting a monthly boot for updates. So W8 seems like a good choice, especially considering the benchmarks where it outperforms XP/Vista.

Hmmm, that's disappointing. I tried out the Longhorn and Vista betas, but I haven't tried out Vienna yet. I expected more from it than that. Sorry btw if I came across as rude, that was not my intention. (I just looked back and read what I typed) I'll have to try it out. Same feeling here, tried wndows 7 64 few times on another partition, deleted it after about a week thought wtf am i doing on here, when my vista 64 does everything i want and fast, just have to defrag with decent defragger every so often, change startup items, and try ultimate windows tweaker thats pretty good program oh and Ccleaner, also try out google chrome, the new 2.0.170.0 is out, so its allll gravy:). Vista 64-bit is very good no driver issues like ever so..., games run fine, im not impressed by 7 yet, few things ive thought are pretty good but upto now meh, got my rocketdock thats fancy UI :), chrome has good tab management, can switch tabs and drag tab to new windows etc..

windows7 sp1 = may take it :/

win 7 does feature better memory management so it runs on low end systems efficiently like ones with less ram/cpu speeds, but other than that uses same amount vista does if you got the resources so.., thought that wallpaper changer was nice on 7, until i found webshots and caledos lol

I'll upgrade to Windows 7 only if I get a free or heavily discounted upgrade from Windows Vista Ultimate. If not...well, I'll just stick with Vista. It's usable enough as it is, though I hope that Service Pack 2 tweaks and tunes things up a bit.

want to know something rather funny, you can get aero snap, aero shake, aero peek, and a wallpaper changer, and windows 7's new transparent theme for vista. So even on the new interface front its not looking hmm exciting?

Well, I don't think his unbiased scientific test on his friend's old computer is exactly an accurate presentations of the differences. The benchmarks say performance will be improved on Windows 7, so you haven't said anything wrong in this thread yet. Keep it up. As for myself, if at release it is still performing better than Vista, then yep I'll get it.

maybe its a tweaked mem management, because thats what ive read it does have modifications to the kernel and how it manages ram, but if on the face on things theyre changed few things and given it a new name, then is it all just a marketing scheme? also i used to run vista 32-bit + 2gb ram it ran just fine, but support for 64-bit on vista is pretty much solid now as i have experienced from making the move to vista 64-bit + new set of 4gb ram :) its lightningy

I love Vista -- leaps and bounds better than XP for me; so with that said, I'll stay with Vista for a while longer and then save up and eventually upgrade to Windows 7.

I think a part of it is, just to get away from the Vista name and all the noobs who complained that it used their memory. So they change the name and advertise it as the opposite.

Can anyone give me a good reason to pay more than £100 for an operating system? The are hundreds of free open-source alternatives. I use Ubuntu Linux and I love it. Fast, doesn't need powerful hardware, has great visual effects and IT'S FREE! If I want to play a game, I just boot up XP. Why should I pay for Vista or Windows 7?

What i've heard so far is that its supposed to be loads better then Vista SP1 and since i'm still using XP and didn't waste my money on the lemon (Vista) i might just be getting W7.

I'm 3/4 confident that im gonna either skip 7 or wait for its sp1 release, pretty sure by then even though right now its pretty awesome, it will be great. Its that 1/4 that bugs me its new and when it has HUGE improvements over what im using then i'll switch. Yes i agree with my own statement and other people might say it is M$ trying to get away from how vista was received and is still kinda viewed, yet its solid for me and many others.

I plan on waiting a month or two before buying. I plan on doing a whole new build along with it. Im tired of only getting 9500 on 3d mark 06 on my mediocre computer lol.

I fully plan on buying Windows 7. From what I hear its a more perfect version of Vista and I love Vista. A no brainer really.

XP Pro is still doing me fine. Until I see truly needed requirements for upgrade, like the inability to run a vast quantity of programs, I will stick to XP Pro for Gaming. Better Frames=Better Gameplay. Gameplay>Graphics.

Could you please show me a benchmark where Windows 7 64bit outperforms XP 32 bit? As I have not located one at this point in time.

The stuff I love in W7 is its homegroup features(Which I use a lot) and its taskbar improvements. On laptops it greatly improves the battery life as well. It has much faster booting/shutting down times and uses a bit less of resources than Vista(Well thats what I've observed, I started getting around 10 more FPS in my games). Other than that, the new WordPad, Windows Media Player 12 and Paint is pretty cool as well.
