After playing about 10 minutes of the demo, I had to shut it off. This was the first demo I have ever turned off I think...ever. Started off with basics, it was ridiculously lousy, I mean, I know its basics but cmon. "run over the ramp and then run back to me"...oook? Hold down W ftw? So, Then I start the first mission which I believe is made for more basics. Lemme say, the voice-acting is possibly the worst I've ever heard. The graphics took awhile for me to enjoy but I did enjoy attention to detail. It was awesome being prone and see a bug whizz around my head every once in awhile.

However I didn't like the feel of the game. This is my opinion, I can't really downrate it because I don't like the playstyle but the game seems to have a STEEP STEEP *STEEP* learning curve. Just open up the control options, they run out of buttons on the keyboard so some things turn into "x2 R" etc. It reminds me a lot of stalker when it comes to reality but taken up a couple notches. I didn't like running 20 yds and my guy sounding like he just ran a marathon, that was a little ridiculous but, meh. I know really nothing about "Bohemia Interactive", is this one of there first productions? I can see where many people may really enjoy this, and I think I'm gonna give it a break and try it again sometime later but, atm, thoroughly unimpressed. (This game was never on my radar to begin with lemme say but I was interested somewhat because there seems to be a TON of hype going into it)

I enjoyed it a lot. My only problem is the mouse lag.

I did like the visuals but the voice acting is bad. I was surprised by how many controls there were, you literally need to use combinations in order to do some stuff lol. But I think it appeals to a very specific group of people and that group of people will appreciate the game the most.

Hah, I might have to start it up again just to hear that. Sadly though it is gonna take a while for the blood clot to clear out of my ear from hearing the first 2 guys speak to me.

I really enjoyed it. I was a veteran ArmA./Flashpoint player, and the demo gave me a really good impression of how ArmA 2 has really refined the experience. As in, it has really become the ULTIMATE war simulator, much more so than OpFlash or the original ArmA. Very good overall, if you're willing to put up with a lot of little annoying things (think of it like the flies buzzing around a filet mignon; the overall package is amazing, with a few minor annoyances) Just keep in mind that Bohemia Interactive is self-funded, and they're real small as a team. What they've managed to do is utterly amazing.

I'm not.

It runs ok on my PC, but the maps areso big it's hard to find anyone to fight against.

And the fact that you spawn on your corpse after every death is not exactly a good way to limit spawn camping...

I don't get how you can attempt to make a realistic shooter without iron sights... the tutorial text just flys by as well, so if there were iron sights, I wouldn't have a clue.

The controls were extremely difficult as well.

The AI is laughably bad as well.

I only messed around with it a little bit. It's alright though. I was like WTF when during the Anti-tank training when someone tried sniping me.

There is a Iron Sight, just click the Right-Mouse Button, Holding the Right-Mouse makes you Zoom-In.

-

Anyway I liked the Demo, The Voice acting is terrible But I've see worst. (Bad V/A isn't game Breaking for me)
Some of the Animations is just Laughable one of the NPC was waking around something and looked like some over-freakish Power Walking

-

But Overall I had fun with the Demo, I've found the Controls to be fine, the Game ran great for the settings I've had it on. but Like I said in another Thread I had the game Ordered and I plan keeping it Ordered and awaiting for it next week.:)

I think the people complaing just played for like 10 mins and said it sucks.

The graphics are amazing. The Voice acting is bad but the voice is dynamic and robotic so its really hard to complain with all the options it has. Shooting is fun and the maps are large.

My big complaint thoe is that when you die you respawn over your dead corpse. Who's the dumb**** that allowed that? I got spawn camped so many times by a single guy because of this.

Their is iron sights so im guessing you played the game for like 5 mins. All you have to do is right click. And if the controls are difficult then you could just configure them yourself. I didn't have a problem with them.

I right click and all it does a zoom with crosshairs. If I don't know the controls, it's because the tutorial sucks for complex game. I played through the entire training mission, fyi.

I'd like to try it out but i've got 2 questions first: 1) The Singleplayer. Is there any? If so, what can I do in the singleplayer? Can I have those huge battles? 2) Difference between ArmA and Operation Flashpoint series? Is one a spin-off of the other or a sequel? Different timeframe or theme?

Can't really give my opinion yet. I played 2 relatively lengthy rounds of multiplayer and i still had no idea WTH was going one. The game is incredibly complex and not very user friendly.

i just spent a half hour trying to figure out how to fly the helicopter, i kept overshooting and undershooting everything (er, i mean over flying, you get the point) and the whole action menu is not friendly at all. i'm sure with more time i'd get teh hang of it though.

While I know it's supposed to be a simulation it just felt way to clunky to me to enjoy playing.

I played it for about 20 minutes before deleting it. I REALLY wanted to enjoy it, but I can't even force myself to trudge through the basics.

The voice acting was ridiculously bad. It's like they pulled some guy off the street and got him to read from a peice of paper.

It could be a great game, it just felt too clunky and unnecessarily complex+bad voice acting.

Visually it was great, although I would have turned down the motion blur a bit.

two things you need to remember about this game:

1. It is a MILITARY SIMULATOR, therefore it is not for the average noob who is used to cod4 and counterstrike. This game requires teamwork and actual tactical knowledge to be proficient at. You will not get by being a dick. If the US Marine Corps and Australian Defence Force, find it good enough to train their soldiers, then it sure as hell doe the job.

2. It was made in The Czech Republic by an independant firm. Their access to top of the range facilities to perform voice acting such as real americans is probably fairly limited. If you play this game how it was meant to be played, i.e. co-op with a section level or more of experienced players, or competively, then most of your issues cease to become important.

If it was some audio file you were missing then I had the same problem as you. Just update your DirectX drivers to the latest which is like March 09 and you should be fine.

The interface is horrible, multiplayer lacks any good features, performance is bad for what you get, it crashes a lot, the editor is clunky, and yet it was really fun somehow, I will be waiting for patches though, it is just unacceptable for a "released" games to be in this state. I feel like I am playing pre-alpha here. I heard there were still sounds to be added and all sorts of crap that isn't "fixes" but really additions to be made via patches. I really cannot stress how bad performance is. On my Phenom II x4 940, 4gb ram, and 8800gts G92 ( a tad aged but capable of much better) the game looks and runs like crap on normal, low settings look like OFP and run at 20fps during firefights. I even did all the tweaks on ARMAholic and got it up to about 25fps! The engine is simply old and bloated and needs desperately to be replaced with something that can give better physics, more interactive buildings (such as being able to go inside all of them, a huge part of combat mostly missing from their games), and scales better. The thing is that on very high, the game looks fantastic, and runs at 10fps, but low looks horrible and runs at less than 30.

for 1) and 2), the people who made Operation Flashpoint are the same people who made ArmA and now ArmA2. Their publisher of the first game kicked them off the Operation Flashpoint name after they made it, so they aren't allowed to make sequels. As far as 1), the SP is extremely similar to OpFlash. Pretty much all of the complaints in this thread are people that would be complaining about Operation Flashpoint, too - just not their kind of game. It's sure as hell better than ArmA1 was!

If the Game would be a lot smoother to play and had less Bugs It could be a Master Piece, but unfortunate its not like that...

They certainly could had made things easier without ruining the depth simply by using a bit more familiar control scheme and a straightforward tutorial. Of course I understand there are a lot of keys needed in this game but still it felt unnecessarily complex at times.

That being said, if I could run it better I'd certainly get it at some point, and will propably after I upgrade, I'm still managing to play it smooth on x1950 so it's not bad, but it ain't pretty either.

Just finished the helo training succesfully, I don't think I've ever felt like I've accomplished something by playing the tutorial before. :P Challenge is good. But this is also the kind of game that would require me to put down my other games for a while which I'm not willing to do right now.

Coming from being a longtime OpFlash fan, I was pretty much able to jump in and figure out the controls in ten seconds. The only exception was jumping over short fences - that one's new, and took me a minute to figure out it was V haha. The controls are ridiculously complex, but there is a lot to be done, in their defense. I do wish they had gone with a radial menu for the commands instead of the list though.

Trying to play Arma II without it is like trying to play with only one arm.

Sigh, guess I'm going to have to suck it up and drop $150 on a new one..

I was extremely dissappointed by the poor pop ups at High/Very high settings . This game looks so pretty for at the same time being so ugly . One thing that i noticed in my somewhat 80 minutes of testing (Most of it was loading and trying to get some kind of response from a server , which led to restricting me to Singleplayer) The Sniper rifles and such , when you zoomed in the view only zoomed in . Not through the scope or anything , you just zoomed in and it was very poort because the pop-ups don't react to the zoom so you couldn't see more than a few pixels of the enemy . The performance was great in one time but some times there was some lagging in form of Memory leaks , this shouldn't be a problem with a high end PC with 4GB of ram . The voice commands seemed to be cut outs from Microsoft Sam put together to form sentences . The weapons were ridicolous , it did not feel authentic at all . The head bobbing is just a bad idea , nobody runs like if you were drunk when you are sober . Fix the Graphical issues , the weapons and the headbobbing . And i'll reconsider playing this game again . Overall 3/5 Graphics 2/5 (Pop-ups are really bad) Gameplay 3/5 Sound 4/5

It's been said many times in this thread how to use the iron sights vs. the 'zoom' view. Stuff like that... ugh. You really should give the game a fair shake if you didn't notice basic gameplay things like that, or just - yeah, it's not your kind of game at all.

The game is a headache. The mission editor rocks my m14 but everything else is just terrible. However I expected this because I also have the first ARMA. Voice acting is absolutely ridiculous and can become very annoying. Most of the campaign missions are bugged. Me and some friends played coop and had to restart several missions many times because of various bugs and annoyances. I think one of the most annoying things is when you reload after you die you are stuck in spectator and cant join even though the host is playing and everyone else is just sitting on the sidelines.

Voice breaks occasionally. Online is just laughable like the first ARMA. Terrible menus and interface options. The motion blur in the game makes me want to die so bad. I got headaches several times looking at it and it seems to hammer performance greatly. I just turn off post processing and its over with even though it makes the game even more ugly. Yesterday I played the game fine on all high settings but today I can't even play on low without major framerate issues. Alt tabbing fixes it temporarily but it comes back pretty fast. I love the editor but everything else is fail. Well I'm off to re-input my joystick because the game doesn't save anything when you exit.

Isn't this game available on Steam right now?

As far as the demo is concerned - it's too big. But I suspect that I'm going to love this game. I'd probably buy this game without playing the demo. I've grown to detest the COD series, and this game sounds like it's the Anti-COD game that I've been waiting for.

Call of Duty sucks. There. I said it.

A bit off-topic guys but I need someone to explain this to me: - I have always got confused between America's Army (ArmA) and Armed Assault. - They are 2 different games right? - Are they both ONLINE ONLY? or does AA have single player campaign like COD? - I saw an awesome video not too long ago....was that from the new upcoming AA? Which part is it? 2, 3? Thanks

Arma is Armed Assault....it has nothing to do with Americas army.

Arma 1/2 has a very long singleplayer campaign as well as Coop and multiplayer as well as a super good mission editor that can do Singleplayer, coop, and multiplayer missions.

I think you just have to keep a sense of humor about the voice acting, it's laugh out loud funny at times. I was impressed with the realism and the graphics, very nice when you crank the settings up. It just feels very realistic and a nice change. I will be surpised if Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising matches it in terms of realism. It will however probably be more entertaining (depending on your playstyle).

ArmA has a single player campaign and the mod community generates a tonne of content within a few months.

America's Army is online only. (well, you can practice offline with brain dead AI bots if you wish.)

2, 3? ThanksFelipeInside

Armed Assault is ArmA. ArmA and America's Army are different games.

ArmA has a single-player campaign. ArmA 2 can be played in co-op (4 people); it has randomly generated side-missions, and the campaign is the best in the series.

All awesome videos are from ArmA 2. America's Army is NOT awesome:P

Btw, ArmA/OFP have huge modding and multiplayer communities. The online is definately great.

I just played I'll say half of the demo, maybe 1/3...maybe 1/4. But I played it for about 40 minutes. I like the look of everything, I like the headbob and the motion blur all looks real nice. And finally, there is an actual Sun in the game. The only other game to have a bright Sun is Morrowind. The sound effects are all pretty good, and the voice acting is freaking hilarious, some may consider that a bad thing, but for a demo, I think it adds a lot, hahaha.

I will say though, the controls are MUCH more complicated then they ever need to be. I'm not even a COD fan, but these controls are kind of stupid. You could easily have prone and stand cover all three stances in two buttons: Z-prone-C-Crouch-C-stand, but they didn't want to do that, so they waste a whole other button. And the menu is over complicated as well; enter doesn't really open the menu, it makes you lay down, maybe pick up that gun.

With that said, there are a lot of things I like about the game too, like I said, the sound is very good for the weapons, aiming is easy, and shooting is too. Flying the helicopter, I kind of gave up on, I didn't feel like mastering it at the moment, and I crashed twice, it feels kind of like running barefoot on ice, but I understand that it kind of SHOULD be that way. The animations also aren't very pretty, in particular the people dying, it is that old way of ragdoll flopping about immediately when shot. I guess Killzone 2 has spoiled me in that department.

I did like the lighting and graphics though, they are very pretty. The explosions are visually unimpressive though.

After what I played, I would probably give the game about a 5.5 or 6 out of 10; though, I think I could find myself really liking the game if I bought it and fleshed out everything, maybe when it gets cheaper.

Also, I see there is a surrender button...that is cool, and I'd like to try it out.

America's Army is free. Or if you're American, they used your tax money to make it.

the people that are saying its bad expected a COD like game....this game is not bad, its just designed for a much more dedicaded and "hardcore" community.
