I think you just have to keep a sense of humor about the voice acting, it's laugh out loud funny at times. I was impressed with the realism and the graphics, very nice when you crank the settings up. It just feels very realistic and a nice change. I will be surpised if Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising matches it in terms of realism. It will however probably be more entertaining (depending on your playstyle).Gooeykat
I understand exactly what you mean. I think that I will likely enjoy ArmA 2 more than OpFlash 2 (both of which I've pre-ordered) better, though.

V, I think. You get all winded when you do it standing still, I laughed and had to check in the options what my character was trying to do, and then I read "step over" and I laughed again.

Actually, i haven't had a chance to play it. I'm about to reformat my computer, I suppose getting this demo will be first on my to-do list once I get windows up and running.

A Note for the people saying the Voice over is bad.
Yes, you are correct the Voice is just Terribly Bad in this game but at the same time there is no Real Voice Actors for this game.

Everything is run by a TruVoice TTS Engine (Text-To-Speech) you might notice a "Lernout & Hauspie TruVoice American English TTS Engine" in your Uninstall Program Lists this is what ArmA II uses.

It works the same way as say Windows Narrator (Microsoft Sam; or Anna), and whatever MAC has on theirs, you type something out they read it but with no emotions in their voices.

Are you 100% positive on this? Because that Bender main character guy has tons of emotion, just going in all the wrong direction.

I was mainly talking about Sam and Anna when I said that, everything I've typed out for them to read they show No Emotions; No Soul; No Nothing in their words...

:P

I can't say much about Lernout and Hauspie TruVoice, I've notice some yelling and other stuff in videos but your right the voices in the engine does have some emotion just not for the right situation.

-

I'm not saying "lets not mark it down for bad Voice Over" or anything, I'm just saying take note that there is no real person reading the lines your computer is and its not gonna pick the right emotion for the situation.

Everything I'm seeing on Utube looks incredible.

This just puts Call Of Duty to shame. Call Of Duty is a joke compared with this. This might end up being my dream war-game. Finally, something that's realistic, and completely wide open.

And how can anybody say that it's not a great looking title?

Imagine putting your hands in your pockets, standing up, and playing an FPS. That is how this game controls. But yes, it looks great, and the shooting is nice.

There is some mouse lag, and it has a steep learning curve, but I instantly loved it when I went into servers and kept spamming WHERE ARE YOU.

On a second playthrough with Arma2 , the game seems to be alot better than i initially though (read page 5) . With some hints and tips alot of the things have become better and i've started to like it more . I would now atm give it a 4.5/5 , it's realistic and good looking at very high settings with maximum visibility . Still there's some flaws that prevent it from getting a perfect 5 .

Don't compare COD to this....COD is an action FPS, this is a simulator.... saying COD is a joke comparing to this is wrong.

To save performance, the game will lower the resolution of the game and then upscale it to your monitor's size. If you want to get rid of that, set both the interface size and the 3d size to 100% (or your native resolution).

OP clearly doesn't know the target audience for this game.

I've been apart of the ArmA community for abit over a year and I can tell you that the people who play ArmA are not traditonal gamers, they are much older guys (30-40).

It is a military shooter. It isn't supposed to be run and gun. It isn't even supposed to be like Rainbow Six. I cannot describe to you how deep the game really gets.

Oh also, you won't find many games with 50+ player co-op missions.

I've been apart of a joint assault with three seperate squads totaling about 20 guys. The British S.A.S. squad went in first to silence the AA guns then the two american squads, both air calvary, went into clear the airfield. You only had one life and the SAS squads learned that the hard way. Within 20 minutes of inserting, we were taking off to go pull them out of the combat area as they got ambushed. Only one survived. We managed to clear the airfield after some quick CAS runs by an A-10 and an Apache.

You won't get that in other games.

I find it nearly impossible to spot enemies. I don't get how I could 'clear' a town without an invincibility mod.

I think this game gives a 'proof of concept'. I really enjoy that I can do almost anything I want to from transporting AI units with a helicopter to crawling across an open field or taking orders from an AI squad leader. It reminds me of a much, much larger/epic version of the battlefield series. I also thought it was cool that you could set up defenses, which only adds to the games potential.

That being said, the combat isn't fun at all and learning the game is a frustration. If you make a complex game, you've got to have a good tutorial or intuitive controls; this game has neither.

The graphics seem to run from absolutely stunning to "Um, was this made in 1998?" I'll be running through a forest watching some battles go off in the distance and be like "awesome" then I'll zoom in to snipe someone only to find that there's no grass or cover of any kind (with 2d trees in the distance). This makes it extremely easy to spot enemies at a distance, yet nearly impossible in CQC. Or I'll enter a house only to find a non-functional door with textures that would make pacman look graphically appealing. I honestly wouldn't care if the game looked bad, but it needs constancy. I'd rather render less 'close-up' grass/foliage and have no pop-ups, especially for an FPS that relies on cover and stealth; neither of which seem to be provided.

This and put everything else at normal, except for Shadows (High) and Postprocessing (High). The shadows at normal look pretty bad and I really like the motion blur and lighting when the PP is set to high.

[QUOTE="Baranga"]

[QUOTE="FelipeInside"]A bit off-topic guys but I need someone to explain this to me: - I have always got confused between America's Army (ArmA) and Armed Assault. - They are 2 different games right? - Are they both ONLINE ONLY? or does AA have single player campaign like COD? - I saw an awesome video not too long ago....was that from the new upcoming AA? Which part is it? 2, 3? ThanksFelipeInside

Armed Assault is ArmA. ArmA and America's Army are different games.

ArmA has a single-player campaign. ArmA 2 can be played in co-op (4 people); it has randomly generated side-missions, and the campaign is the best in the series.

All awesome videos are from ArmA 2. America's Army is NOT awesome:P

Ok....so the recent Demo is from Armed Assault? or America's Army? Lol....so confusing cause some webpages have America's Army as Arma or ArmA.....hahahhaa

It's not ArmA or Armed Assault. It's Arma. It is not an abbreviation or acronym. It is the Latin word for weapons or military force.

This COULD be a great game, but it's obvious the developers are working on a limited budget.

-Some of the motion capture is odd-looking.

-The voice-acting is very bad.

-Some stuff is highly detailed, while other stuff looks like it was made for the Nintendo 64.

-Lag is horrible. Ghost images of player. Flickering. Pop-up. Yuck.

And I'm only in games with less then 30 players. I can't imagine the game servers running very well with more players.

It's a valiant attempt, but I'm probably just going to wait for Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 1943. They might be less realistic, but they are way more fun.

Maybe after a couple patches I'll check in on ArmA2 again.

I got a good Sunday's worth of the demo in and being a fan both of Operation Flash and the first ArmA I can say I'm enjoying this a lot. Still haven't bought it off of steam but I plan on it. the only thing that annoyed me was the blur that happens when turning around to fast which by lowering post processing to low instead of normal seemed to help. For me my mouse was way sensitive which I lowered the settings down for which is probably the first game I have ever had to lower mouse settings for. Voice acting I don't really care since I read the subtitles anyways so I don't care about that. The game is fun and the missions are pretty interesting so far both challenging and frustrating at the same time. Graphics are pretty good for the scale of the game and how detailed everything is.

I would give the game about a 7/10. good gameplay and the single player is pretty good. I didn't really like the multiplayer, for some reason it kept spawning me with different weapons. And almost everyone was a sniper :/ I guess I'll give the multiplayer another go later on today. I'm planing on buying this game in the future.

I had to play on the lowest possible settings (including the lowest resolution) to get a decent framerate. Even then it kinda lagged. I like the head bobbing, and the movements are all pretty realistic, but at the graphics I have to run it at, I'd rather play Big Rigs.

I ran it all on high without a problem, and still the graphics are just average.... but I believe this is done on purpose cause of the huge open world.

That actually made me upset on how unrealistic the air combat is. Makes me wonder why they put it in. To be fair the tanks in the game are really nerfed compared to real life as well. Its all balancing they did to make it fun for the consumer. A real M1A2 Abrams tank wouldn't even been on such hilly of an enviroment, there isn't a point. Don't risk a several million dollar tank on some environment where some puny infantry can blow it to hell. Those tanks engage targets from 3-4 kms away at a speed of 45 km/h, and hit with deadly accuracy. Thats real life tank fighting.

Armour and aircraft have always been borked in OpF and ArmA. Hopefully they'll get around to fixing this for ArmA III. I really want them to get rid of the hitpoints thing more than anything. I always thought it pretty stupid that you could take out a T-72 if you pumped enough bullets into it, but you can in ArmA.

Lol at least you made it through basic, I couldn't even force myself to do that. I just shut it off and played plants vs. zombies lol.

First time i booted up the game i hated it...turned it off like 20 minutes later. Gave it another chance the next day, and it's been growing on me. The atmosphere is incredible.

[QUOTE="scoobiesnackarf"] Uhh if I am not mistaken that is someone's attempt using the editor. Nothing more or less.

Oh I know. I've messed around with the editor in the ArmA 2 demo and I am a pretty experienced map maker in ArmA. The air combat is still extremely unrealistic. Aircraft in ArmA and ArmA 2 are more for CAS so they didn't bother modeling for high alt dogfighting.
