I quit but I didn't really care for the game to begin with so it wasn't too difficult. I've gone back a few times mostly to play with friends who have sent me time cards so I wouldn't have to pay and even then, for free, it couldn't hold my interest. Frankly, there are just other MMORPGs that I enjoy wasting my time in a lot more. WoW was simply way too carrot-on-a-stick for my tastes and that's not what I look for in these kinds of games.

I played for a few years and quit a few months after TBC came out, I realised that all I was doing besides logging on to do the same boring raids every day without hardly ever getting any loot for it was sitting in shattrath waiting for a BG to pop and then getting pwned in 4v4 by a group or rogues or mages, getting mad and logging off only to log back on 5 mins later and do the same.
I realised that I didnt even enjoy the game any more once I had reached max level so why should I pay for somehthing I dont even like? The game seems like it is designed from the ground up to keep people addicted, and thats the only reason I was logging on at all.
I played casually for 2 years and way too seriously for another 2 years. I had to quit because I can't possibly fit it into my life anymore.
I quit playing it after the first week. Boring ass hell. mattpunkgd
You never even experienced the meat of the game.
i played it on and off since beta until a couple of months after WotlK, i just had enough of it and the typical everquest gamelplay/combat, i told myself i would never play a MMORPG again until they make the interactions (be it social or agressive) much more real time.
I played until shortly before TBC came out.... entirely too much. I quit and then played for a couple of months after TBC came out, but quit again for good. It's an amazing game and no other game has ever kept me enthralled for so long.
I have always been a Warcraft (RTS) fan and I loved the story line and the universe for WoW, but like others have said it was a bit too addictive for me. I have a pretty low tolerance for this type of game and didn't do much else. I got to know a lot of people and had a blast, but am very satisfied that I quit. Apart from not getting out too much, I also didn't play any other games.
Hearing from how some of my friends have described this game, it seems like it's taken a turn for the worse anyway. Even when TBC came out, I already had my grudges about giving shamans to Alliance and paladins to the Horde. It seemed like it just took the ingenuity out of the game. I always thought Blizz did very well with balancing their games even though each side had completely different units. With this change it just made both sides exactly the same... Now I've heard that they have made the game completely catered to casual gaming. It seems like they just caved in to what the masses wanted, rather than making an innovative game like it was in vanilla.
Short form of the above > Played pretty hardcore for about 2.5 yrs, loved it > quit > glad that I quit, but still preferred the game in its vanilla stage
I played for 5 years till July of this year and I quit. I have taken breaks before but this one is more permanent for a few reasons, one of which I rather not get into. It was a combination of the game was just boring to me now (which is to be expected after playing so long), drama (this is what I don't feel like getting into), and I thought the new expansion looked like crap.
I quit quite a few times. Though I come back after a while again, I took about a 2 year break from the game because at the time I found EQ2 to be a much more engrossing package. However after the rather weak Sentinel's Fate expansion I went back to WoW, where I am right now.
I have quit off and on through out the years.. But I always come back and start from scratch again.sSubZerOo
I do the same, and when I do, I usually start on a new server as well.
I quit playing it after the first week. Boring ass hell. mattpunkgdWay to go to pass off a game as "boring" when you've played about 0.2% of it.
I stopped playing a few years ago, before The Burning Crusade came out. I really liked it, but stopped because it costs too much cash, and requires too much time to enjoy it to the fullest.

I don't blame him. I put 5 hours into the game and I didn't have any fun. Why should I keep playing it? All others game I've enjoyed took me less than an hour to get into. And my last comment is just a joke, btw.[QUOTE="Litchie"]Way to go to pass off a game as "boring" when you've played about 0.2% of it.[QUOTE="mattpunkgd"]I quit playing it after the first week. And my last comment is just a joke, btw. The beginning of MMORPGs are usually pretty boring. Why should you keep playing? Cause that's what makes MMORPGs fun.You start like a weak nobody, and slowly get more powerful (which is why the game pretty much HAS to be boring in the beginning) with gear and skills you can do different combos and strategies with, making the game a lot more variable. Then later you can kill some dudes in PvP (which is completely different from questing) or party up with 40+ people trying to take down huge bosses in fun cooperative ways.
If you play an MMORPG for just a few hours, you've seen basically nothing what the game has to offer, which is why I hate to see "I played WoW for 2 whole hours, and it was the most boring game ever" comments.
Get a bunch of friends and play this game together, and I assure you WoW can be fun.

I actually got in to PC gaming because of this game. I was a console gamer, a few friends at work were huge WOW nerds. I have alway been into video games, one of them invited me to there house and I checked it out, seemed fun, little did I know if you are a competive gamer like myself it would destroy you. My friends were all already level 80, but they were just starting out at raiding, for me it was a race to 80, then a race to who had the best gear etc...... I got way to involved in the game, I usually work out 3 days a week, I stoped working out because {I had daileys to do} LOL etc, long story short I played hardcore for 8 months, got out of shape, almost lost my GF and became way more nerdy then I would ever like to admit. It took me 6 months to get back in shape and I will NEVER PLAY A GAME EVER AGAIN THAT IS BASED AROUND OTHER PEOPLES TIME SCHEDUALES.
Yea you cant possibly "Like" Any MMO the first 5-10 hours you play it...Itsa grind. I cant think of a single MMO that I just fell in love with when I played it. That includes, Ultima online (I was like, wtf is this?? This is junk, turned out to be one of my favorite games of all time), Star wars galaxies (enough said, im sorry for that), WoW, then LOTRO (Its ok, but once you play WoW you really cant play this).
Anyway, yea I have cata preordered.
I just quit today as my subscription closed and i have no interest in renew it. I will probably start play it again sometime down the road tho.
I am that kind of guy that play wow/mmo for 3-4 months then take a break from it and start play 6months later or so.

Seems like you have an addictive personality thats all. Since I have started playing WoW Ive actually learned to manage my time, which resulted in better grades and turning any project ahead of time. I started to work out and have lost 40 pounds. As for the people who say "I played 1 hour and then I quit" You apparently do not play rpgs at all if you think this genre is good from the first minute till the last. RPGs are about abilities, scope, loot all three get better over time. If I had stopped playing Mass Effect, becouse the begining portion on the Citadel was boring I would not have experiance one of the better games in the last decade.

Ive been playing off and on for over five years now.
WoW is a great game; its a lot of fun, has an excellent and large community, and is great to play with real-life friends (especially if they live far away).
But as with most things, even MMOs with near-limitless content...it gets old. So I generally quit for a few months every year, usually during the summer so I can get out more and do stuff.
I never played WoW excessively, but there were times when I got close. That is when I knew it was time for a break. I plan on playing for another few months after Cataclysm comes outbut as soon as my Worgen gets to around 50 or so I think im gonna quit.
All I can say is, after while it gets old. But that one year I played vanilla WOW, I had a lot of fun. But most of it I have to admit felt like a second job. With so much time and effort you put into it, you don't even get to have the gear you want. After realizing I was spending countless hours in front of my computer for pixels that made my character look "cool" and shiny.. I quit. If you think about it, it's a time-hole. I'm glad I have been able to play so MANY other games since and I have no regrets whatsoever. For those that are still having fun on WOW, more power to you. Don't take it personal..Elann2008
I agree, but aren't all games like this?

[QUOTE="Advid-Gamer"]You need help.... i hate games too where i NEED to have a group of 25people to get the best items. I dont like to depend on anyone or need a group to get anything done. Like EQ2 where its a group based game when i played 4 years ago, you had to have a group of 5 to do anything so if i jumped on at 3am and theres no one online = I cant play alone. Yea WoW has random dugeons now where you can Que in line and join a 5-10 player dungeon. they need 25 player ones tooI actually got in to PC gaming because of this game. Quiting WoW is one the only good choices I've made to date in my life. I have completely removed any itch to play WoW could care less about it.
The sad part is when people remind me of the period when I would play/raid I get depressed that I allowed myself to disconnect from the real world family/friends for almost a year.
The people I know that continue playing WoW have no jobs get no sun and let themselves go. Talk to them about real life and they could care less talk to them about WoW and they are all smiles, sad very sad indeed.
I've been playing since the release. I always seem to quit in the middle / end of each expansion. Quit a couple months before BC, got back right before it launched.. same with Wrath, and now Cata.. so i've been playing frequently as of lately. Started out Alliance and got my account banned... so I re-rolled horde at the beginning of Wrath and have been playing Horde since.
I also think Blizzard made the came way way way too easy. Remember how hard it was to get gear in vanilla WoW... countless hours in MC and BWL in 40 man raids and most of the time you don't get any gear? Now I see scrubs running around with full Tier 10 by running Heroics which pisses me off. And for Icecrown.. you can PuG that place so easily now if your server has the 30% buff. It wasn't even that hard without it. Idk, thats just my opinion. And mounts at level 20... just ridiculous. It took me forever to grind for an epic mount on my hunter back in Vanilla, now you can get them for barely nothing at level 20. I had to level on ground mounts in BC and Wrath now you can just fly through all the crap. UGH. It just seems like they're making the game too noob friendly. Feels like you've worked for nothing when you see all the noobs accomplishing the same thing and bragging about it when you did it nearly a year ago when it was actually difficult. NAHMEAN?
