They don't work on consoles.
They aren't really for casuals cause they take way longer to "learn" and the skillgap between a good and bad player is bigger in arena shooters. Most players nowadays are casuals, the old dedicated players are just too old, and the new ones are too lazy and want a game that rewards them now, instead of a week or two.
You're not completly correct about them going away though.
I personally liked Ut3, and even if I didin't, there would be lots for me to choose from =p
Warsow
Quake Live
Nexuiz
Just to name a few. Capture the Flag is the best gamemode, ever.
Honestly, I enjoy Unreal Tournament 3. I don't see why everyone's so against it. I also put in about 200 hours into Quake 4. Both of them are great games, imo.
how are the communities and servers on nexuiz? that looks quite fun. They don't work on consoles.

You must play some low level quake then. Or at least not 1v1.[QUOTE="chester706"][QUOTE="Renevent42"]Quake was easier to play than Halo in my opinion. I could do pretty well in Quake whereas in Halo I would get murdered over and over again. In reality I think they play very similarly anyways...both are very fast paced online. Oh and Lach0121, well said man.Renevent42
Nope, sorry. And in reality I could say the same about you regarding Halo...but I don't like to make assumptions about total strangers that I know nothing about.
Seriously? I haven't played Reach, but I used to play Halo 3 all the time. Almost always got the kill lead and I still think Quake takes twice as much skill.
[QUOTE="AiurProtoss"]Arena Twitch shooters needa resurgence, but the problem is that too many mainstream gamers are too hooked on super slow games like Halo, they couln't handle the speed of quake, and people tend to not like getting killed over and over. appealing to the casual market is what has really hurt gaming this gen.PrexxusHalo is casual? Halo pro players make hundreds of thousands in tournaments. I don't see much Quake players and I don't think the reason is because they can't handle it. It's just plain boring. ^^this

onyl the top 3 teams get worthwhile money and its gets split up between the team. first prize for a regualr season event in MLG is 20,000 dollars. Halo nationals is 100,000 for first place. but then theres taxes and then it gets split up into 4. 1 part for eah team mate still between the poverty line. sorry but tis not hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The whole skill debate is pointless. Anyone can play Quake or Halo, but it takes a truly skilled player to be good at either one of them. Just because there are a lot of inexperienced people playing Halo does not mean it takes less skill to play it than it does to play Quake. If you were to against a professional Halo player, it would be a completely different playing field in comparison to some random match on Xbox Live. And it's the same case with Quake. I've played some matches in Q4 and QIII that were filled with people who make it seem like the game doesn't require any skill to be good at it. But that's actually a misconception created due in part to playing against inexperienced people. If I was playing against a dozen clones of Fatal1ty all the time, I would probably think that the game requires an insane amount of skill.
You know Halo is also on PC? I played it for a while.Yea, but you don't have the same level of precision with a gamepad as you do with a mouse and keyboard
BLaZe462
If you play with the right people, any decent shooter can be competitive. And I still don't buy into the whole "it takes more skill to play this than this" crap. It's just BS.Yea, but there's better, more competitive fps for PC

u mad son. It is fact that Quake takes more Skill to play than Halo. Its not even a Debate. Does that make Halo non competetive and trash?? by all means no, no one is saying it takes NO skill to play Halo at a professional level, its jsut taht the skill gap in quake is 10 times that of Halo. Quake players have to know more, its all individual skill, one small mistake can cost you the match, whereas In halo you have 3 other guys to back you up. Halo is a good competetive shooter and works really well with tourneys bu eh skill gap is nowhere the level as quake.

I don't know where you're going with this because Quake has team death match, and Halo has free for all, too.[QUOTE="AiurProtoss"]

I don't know where you're going with this because Quake has team death match, and Halo has free for all, too.Ok let me break it down to you. Quake takes more skill to play at a professional level than Halo. these are the rasons why.
1. quake is THE fastest FPS on the market, always has been.
2. No regenerating health/shields
3. more weapons to master/learn, along with powerups, armor shards, armor pieces, ammo.
4. More complicated maps
5. player movement such as strafejumping/ rocket jumping are essential to victory
6. everyone uses a mouse and keyboard allowing for mroe precision and controlled shots than Halo.
7. there is more focus on individual skill. SO a player cant depend on his team mates to put shots on some guy and help him get his kill.
8. Is filled with Veterans that have been playing quake since 1996.
Quake is just overall a more difficult shooter to be good at than halo, and not just because of its speed, but becasue the competition is so steep, if you had the talent dormant inside of you to play quake at a pro level it would take much longer to get a grasp of all the strategies involved in either team or duel matches, simply for the fact people ahve been playing quake since 1996. It took Fatal1ty years to master and get where he is at, and for Halo you can do it in a few months provided if your good enough and have a good team. Does this make Halo bad? no, does it make it not competetive? no, quake is simply harder to play at a professional level. so hopefully you can understand this.
