Bought the game earlier and gave the mod a try. It's definitely intense. I ran out of ammo and was running down the road and some random guy was there and killed the zombies following me. It was a pretty cool experience. I'll definitely play this some more.
Jiggly, your post made my day. As much as I have nothing terrible against the ARMA series, your description of it's core mechanicals and gameplay were brilliantly implemented and executed.

I'm curious as to what issues Wasdie is having. I dled the modfiles yesterday and I'm having no luck with it working :|. Right now I can't see any servers on the multiplayer list.
What I've done currently is extracted everything into @DayZ/Addons, had to copy the stuff from Arma2\addons to operation arrowhead\expansion\addons because I was getting a CABuilding parts error on launch, set the launch option to -mod=@dayz. Still no luck at seeing a server list. Both Arrowhead and ARMA 2 are fully updated.
Anyone have any suggestions?
EDIT - I'm an idiot, and this is mostly user error. I had the filter set wrong. Now the next obstacle is I'm getting stuck on a loading screen after joining a server and "receiving data".

Cool experience, and also rare. Most players there would kill you on the spot lol. The server I was in had mostly friendly players. I only saw a couple of people say they died by another human player. Not like it really matters though, I would have been dead if he didn't save me anyways. :P

Well the server list not showing is not because of the mod. As far as missing files go, copy your files from ArmA II/AddOns to Operation arrowhead/commons. That fixed the problem for me.

Did you update Battleye? Go to their website, click on download page, and there will be files there for OA and original Arma 2. They are all on 32-bit, so don't waste time looking for 64-bit as there is none. There's a couple of files you will need from there. Drag and drop them into the Battleye folder which should be located in your Arma 2 folder under Battleye sub-folder.

For all you guys who have played it already do i need OP arrowhead as well as ARMA2, on the mod page it says the combined ops are needed, but i only have the original game. And on that, my friend only has the free version, would it work for him?

I had the same issue and also saw that 11 page thread but just tried to join again and everything was good just had to wait.

The free giveaway from gmg was the full game just offered for free. The free version i was referring to was the f2p version of arma 2 that is gimped in some aspects.

Yeah, I've heard of that problem and I had it myself the first time. I just restarted the game and then it worked.

The versino of ARMA2 you have is THE FULL RETAIL VERSION. Not the Free (DEMO version).
Your version has everything! Now u just gotta combine ARMA2 and OA to make Combined ops!
Operation Arrowhead is alot better then ARMA2, it runs alot better and when you combine them to make Combined Ops, you get to play the ARMA2 campaig/missions in the Operation Arrowhead engine. And also get to play DAYZ mod with both of them combined.
GMG was giving away a few copies of FULL GAMES when they first started out (;
