Is there any chance that steam will put a sale on ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead? And will ARMA 2 run on a comp with good specs but bad video card?

It might run, but you would get bad performance. What GPU do you have exactly?Xeros606Im ok with bad performance Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS

ArmA 2 is one of the most unoptimized games I've ever played. I still have yet to try the new patch that includes the expansion's optimizations into the original though. It's one of those games I don't even bother trying to play because the performance makes it unenjoyable. My system is an i7 930 @ 4.2 ghz, 6gb DDR3 1600 RAM, and an overclocked ATI 5850.
I managed to run it playably over 30fps. on normal/ high during the demo.ArmA 2 is one of the most unoptimized games I've ever played. Pretty expensive expansion eh? I was hoping for a $30 price point.
The minimum specs that steam show looked pretty depressing.
OS:Windows XP or Windows Vista
Processor:Intel Core 2.4 GHz or AMD Dual-Core Athlon 2.5 GHz
Memory:1GB
Graphics:Nvidia Geforce 8600GT or ATI Radeon 3650 or faster with Shader Model 3 and 512 MB VRAM
DirectX®:DirectX 9.0c
Hard Drive:10 GB free space
For minimum specs I found that to be significantly higher than the original Arma II.

Theres a demo, so try that out just in case.

I got it wrong, i have a good GPU but bad CPU.arma 2 runs pretty good on my comp but i dont run it on all high or at full view distance..the only thing that slows the game down is the 31st normandy mod for the game and really really huge fire fights other than that it runs very smoothly...
The new 1.7 patch really has made this game run well. I have noticed a dramatic improvement. Operation Arrowhead is an expansion but a separate one in that it doesn't require the original.
ARMA 2 is very good now after patches, and at $20 on Steam, it's a bargain. I'm tempted on the expansion, i'm just trying to find out the length of it since it's $40.

And I think mister "I have a good PC" up there that said the game was unplayable wanted to max it. I have a far worse PC and it was totally playable for me, but then again I had to adjust my settings accordingly.

Game lagged on all settings for me. Even medium was under 60 FPS. No excuse for it really. I get ~50 FPS with 8x AA with Crysis on Very High, I should at least manage 60 FPS on medium for ArmA 2. And the input lag was awful...[QUOTE="Agent_Kaliaver"]Fixed. There is a bundle for $50. If you would rather buy them separate then go ahead and waste $10 dollars.[QUOTE="The-Mosher"]Fixed. And the input lag was awful...The problem is the demo was rubbish, badly optimised and full of bugs. So if one tries the demo it instantly give a bad impression of the game. Now with patches for the entire game it's been fixed. However they haven't updated the demo.
They should release an updated demo, they might sell more copies of the game that way.
I didn't have too much trouble with the demo and I have a fairly modest PC. The biggest killer to the frame rate is the view distance, turn that down to get a big boost.
Anyway I've got my copy of OA on its way from the UK, need the boxed version because I have the boxed version of ArmA 2 and they both integrate with each other.

try turning off V-sync if your getting mouse lag and under 60fpsColdfireTrilogyI always have V-Sync off. It's just the controls blow.

Yes... it is unoptimized. It's not like 60FPS flying in a jet over 250km^2 is good or 40FPS in a huge urban battle is good or anything. Don't listen to this fool. The latest patch 1.07 just came out for arma 2 and it improves on the game even more. OA also runs way better than ArmA 2. Gamespot forums are filled with crysis noobs that think *that* game is optimized. ArmA 2 has a higher FPS than crysis at any moment and it's environments are way larger. 5 second loading times for a huge map without any loading times in between is epic.
If you have more questions about arma2, they will be answered better on the BIS Forums -> http://forums.bistudio.com

Controls don't blow, you just have to realize this isn't a baby fps game like MW2. It's a military simulator.
