Hello,

I noticed something weird with my ati 4870x2, when playing m&b: warband my card makes this cracking sound (like a HD who's processing some info.
I was kinda freaked out at first, but then i booted one of my most demanding games (crysis warhead) and i don't have the cracking anymore.

Its only with warband, and something else i noticed, is that its only when i can look pretty far, if i look at the ground the sound is gone.

its not my temps because i checked them and 81C is normal for my type of card.

Pretty weird huh? :)

Update audio drivers?

Update video drivers? The HD 4 series has it's own audio drivers, but this is for the HDMI connections from the card. It's something to look into though.

Nah you don't get it, it has nothing to do with my sound.

Its the card itself (i think it was the fan or something) that made a silent "krrrrr krrr krrr" like a hard drive.

Don't have the problem with any of my games except this mount and blade game.

So i think its the game problem not mine, or else i would have had it with all my games.

Maybe something got sucked into the fan?

I know my fan at 100% is loud, but it doesn't make any clicking or "kurrr kur kur" noises.

If something would be sucked in my fan i would hear the "krr krr" in every game, wouldn't i?

Its only in this mount & blade: warband (indie) game. and this game is not a looker or demanding at all.

So i'm 99% sure its the game itself, it will probebly be fixed with a driver update or a patch for the game.

Id give a ring to ati or whoever made it just to see what it is. Its unlikely any of us know. But I do time to time get surprised by one or two people with good answers.

I think your graphics card is growing into a sentimental being. You should probably dispose it by fire before it starts to try enslaving the human race. On the other hand, have you tried any other non-demanding games? It probably isn't a video mem problem, but awhile ago when I had a card with faulty video mem, extremely high-end game would run butter-smooth while DX9 based games would be artifactfests. Aside from contacting your retailer or ATi, you should also try your luck on M&B's forums.

Weird.... I don't have those problems in Mount and Blade Warband.... Try 10.4 drivers? Enable manual fan override and set it to a speed you want instead of it being automated?

Dude my friends 1900XT would do the same thing with certain games like combat arms. It would start making a weird sound at the start of the game like a hard drive like sound. Then it would go aways but it would come up every time the game starts up. If I were you I wouldn't worry about it he's had his card for over 2 years now and it's still running like a champ. It only does it in some rare set of games, only two of which I can remember.
