50% increase is huge and your overclock can't give a 50% boost in fps... That's like saying 100fps to 150 fps, you would need to oc your core clock by like 300mhz more.only a 50% increase? my hd4890 OCed offers that. its got to be more of a jump. it should be more than a GTX285 based on previous jumps.

Must have :DJigglyWiggly_It's tempting, but I'll wait for gt300, rumored for release around December, and compare. Nvidia usually pwns ATI, but we'll see if it's worth the extra cash this time around.

And I don't see any games coming out in the near future that will demand more than what ATI's 5 series can put out, so I'm almost sure I'll be going the better price/performance route.

hd4890 OCed to 1ghz compared to a hd4870 stock.
crysis for example on high at 1680x1050 with the hd4870 gets 40fps. OCed i get high 50s average with the HD4890 close to a 50% increase over the hd4870
Nvidia wins performance. ATI wins price-performance ratio and video quality. That's how it is, and that's how it's gonna be.mattpunkgdWhat?! How does ATI win video quality? Please enlighten me. I personally STRONGLY prefer my GTX 275 to my 4870 and 4850 Crossfire setups (and especially the 4830; god that card has terrible image quality) because I believe the opposite!
actually the best graphics card from each, depending on how your counting, ATI is better.
workstation graphics cards, 5500 of nvidea ones, that's one quadro fx5800, best one from ati for 5500, two firepro v7700 in crossfire, about 50% more power.
Workstation graphics are in an entirely different arena, not sure why you brought this up?actually the best graphics card from each, depending on how your counting, ATI is better.

anyway we must see what GTX300 give : and what HD5870 in CF cost / use in wattage : I believe HD5870 will be Strongest card But Again that could be Wrong i don't know at all what Nvidia Going to come out with there no info really on there band with and pre-benchmark I know at first We expected HD5870 to have Twice the Gflops : 2.200Gflpos for one single 5870 : instead of 1000Gflops.
One 4870x2 = 1000x2 So if it 50% of single 4890 1GB OC ? it just cause of the Bits in GDDR5 increase or something that go increase and maybe more glfops
but in game ? could it get more then 50% then HD4890 OC ? I wonder i hope so and it will feature SM 5.0 which i don't know when first game that use SM 5.0 will be launch that show all the Great Lightning / Shadow / Close Texture that usually ugly such as the floors compare to far-distance building like in fallout 3 Stock graphic even with improved 400% pack on Fallout3 Mod Community it a bit ugly :P I imagine SM 5.0 when it get huge power :P
but I sure Look Forward Hemlock the thing i wonder if il be able to sell my 4870x2 in Canada for a good price (sigh) i bough it at launch : 599$CAD i should have Wait and maybe spend 550$ in sales but then 2 week after sales all 4870x2 went 679$+ to 800$ then it went down to eventually 550$ for majority of 4870x2 in lot of place after a good 4 month of that raise of price which did success to restrain people of buy 4870x2 in canada :)

High 50s doesn't tell me anything. You give me specific numbers, do a benchmark man and not use estimations :Plol just wanted to correct u on ur math as a 20% increase from 40 is 48, i believe u were looking for 25% :P
maybe the same day the sims 3 First Expansion release ? j/k but i know that it will release around 3rd week of September around 20th i heard so
the one that release at same time as the sims 3 expansion release is 5870x2 :P rumoured codenamed hemlock :Pmarcthpro
That's funny marc, usually Sapphire bundled their card with games, there is possibility Sapphire will bundled it with the sims 3 plus expansion pack...

Well a 50% isnt much of an upgrade for $300+. Nvidia will most likely give a 75-100% boost over the GTX 285 with their new cards. If you look at the geforce 8's to the GTX 260 or better they are pretty much double the performance or more. And ATI wasnt the best price vs performance brand until the release of 4***' series and did aggresive pricing to combat the 8800GT's reign of Price vs performance ratio. We need to wait and see how these cards perform in dx 10&11 before rushing out buying the first one that comes out. It might be a flop with heating issues, poor performance in dx 11 ,etc.. Some of us remember the Geforce Fx series and it said right on the box supports the new dx 9 sm 2. They did but with major performance issues. And knowing nvidia since their dx 11 cards will be out later will pervide better performanceand or pricing to get ahead of ATI in the race here.
