i hit the store again today as a last visit before buying, and it was awesome.

i bargained this store owner who i usually get my parts from, got the following deals:

GPU: Zotac GTS250 1Gb of GDDR3 VRAM from 250$ to 210$. the galaxy one is cheaper by 10$, what do you think?

CPU: this is really confusing. i have the following deals for the CPU:

Q6700 2.66/8mb L2 cahce---->220$

E7500 2.93/3mb L2 cache---->120$

im thinking that the quad may last me longer. im keeping this rig for 2 years before upgrading. after 2 years ill be graduated and hopefuly got a job, and may be the situation here would have gotten better and id be able to order online. what do you think?

PSU: not decided yet. but there is this one for 100$ with 500W. its a decent decent one because its made in israel and they make good PSUs.

Mobo: not decided yet. but im offered the P5Q SE for 150$ and Zotac 9300 for 135$. what i really need to know about the mobo, since im buying a LG775 rig, should i pay less and invest more in the GPU? may be getting the GTX275 or a GTX260?

Edit: oh and ill be gaming at 1900*1080 resolution.

Gaza. yea forgot to say so. I live in GAZA, i cant order anything online, the parts are smuggled so they tend to be very expensive.

and by the way, im planning to OC, when needed. so take that into account when telling me anything about mobo,PSU,CPU.

Get the quad core so he has a GTS250 and its also 1GB and its 10 bucks cheaper? might as well get it 500W might just be the limit. see if there is something around 550W if your going to be gaming at that resolution i would suggest you try and get a slightly better GPU that motherboard sounds decent but im not really sure. why would you get a 9300? arnt you getting a GTS250?

Stick with the quad. If you want it to last two years at least, the extra cores will help as more games become multi-core. As for the motherboard, Zotac isn't really well known for their motherboards, if anything at all, so if you really think you need to upgrade that motherboard, then the Asus would be the wiser choice. Although I'd still recommend going for the Asus P5KPL-CM or the Gigabyte G41M-ES2L to avoid spending too much money on that socket (The Gigabyte one has a newer chipset).

they're both the same card ,with no performance increase whatsoever. But the GTS 250 is a little shorter ,and uses one 6-pin cable (the GTX+ uses 2)

that card is great at 1680x1050 ,but on 1920x1080 you'll have to turn off the AA and maybe lower some settings.

so bottom line is: go for the GTS250. go for the quad. go for an average Asus Mobo. dont cheap on the PSU. my point was, if i got the C2D, i can afford the GTX275.

im somehow confused. in every CPU/GPU related discussion, i see people recommending spending more on the GPU, rather than getting a quad core. are you guys 100% sure of this choice?

I probably won' help much here. Most games that are out today are optimized for dual core cpu's, not quad cores. But, quad cores are becoming more and more popular and you will see more games optimized for the quad core cpu's. There are a handful of games out now that are optimized for quads, two of which just came out (Dragon Age and Dirt 2). Look at both AMD's and Intel's latest cpu lineups. The dual core cpu's they are offering are budget cpu's. AMD's top cpu's are the Phenom II x4 series and Intel's are the i5 and i7 cpu's. All are quad cores.

The choice is yours. Quads have seen more games coming out that can utilize them, but who knows if it'll remain like that? If you feel you need the 275 and are ok with doing a pretty big OC on a dual core. then i dont see that doing so bad. However i dont know the OC potential of the E7500

ok i 100% agree with you that quads are the way to go for the long run. but in my case, im sacrificing the GTX275 for the Q6700. for gaming in general for the 2 coming years, is this the way to go? i mean i can always OC the E7500 to reach 4 Ghz, and with the GTX275, i can be in the safe side for sometime.

i've only got my q6600 at 3.2 D= i'm going to reset my heatsink as i'm not sure it was done properly and i've still got some MX-2 laying around. Hopefully that'll cool it down enough to get it to my ideal 3.6ghz.

i mean even when C2Qs become mainstream and alot of games use them, a C2D with 3mb cache and clocked at 4Ghz will still be good. but the GTS250, im not sure it can last me long enough. and this really depends on the deal i can get on the GTX275. thestore owner told me 300$, but no way im paying 300$ fora gpu. if i can get it for something like 250-260$, ill consider it seriously.

But by then, c2q and i5/i7 would be an outdated tech... just grab a C2D and a fast videocard and call it that.

Yeah, and i don't think that the 275 is more "future proof" than the 250 at this point. But the C2D+GTX275 >>> Quad+250 GTS if those are your choices.

I say go for the GTX 275 + C2D. I have a similar set up with a 4870 1GB and Phenom II X3 720 modestly clocked to 3.2GHz. If I had gone the i7 920 route, I wouldve had to get a cheaper GPU and spend money on an expensive X58 board and a CPU that wouldn't give me the bang for the buck when gaming (i7 is much faster in other applications, which is important for people who run those applications professionally, but not casually). If you go the C2D route, you'll be stuck with the LGA 775 platform until buying a new motherboard (might even need to buy DDR3 later). IMO, get AMD AM3 if you can as they plan to keep that platform alive for a while.

Same here. I say stick with the quad, and here's my reason. Compare the Q6600 at 3.6Ghz and the E8400 at 3.6Ghz in the following benchmark. Won't let me link it =.=

Um, there are not many games that require a quad. Or a quad+250 > a c2d+275. The only one i can think in the top of my head is GTA4 and DAO.

You know you can always lower the resolution, i've never had a problem with that and some people make it seem like it's blasphemy. I'd ditch them both and look for a Q9400 or a Q9550.

The difference isn't even that much :?.............You can strike a balance with a GTX260 as well..........why don't you just OC the one you have now and add a GTX275 to it and a PSU? Then jump to a new CPU/mobo later on...............
