I'm absolutely addicted. For those who haven't heard about it, it's truly an amazing game where you can "play" all your music and compete for high scores as well as STEAM achievements. You basically have several different modes you can select for easy, medium, and hard, and from there, the game builds a track where you "surf" your ship along a course. The track reflects the voice, drums, and whatever other sounds come from the song, making a unique track for every song. This is a great way to listen to your old mp3's or just chill out to some visuals while actually playing a game, brilliant idea overall.

Here's a page full of good quality Audiosurf videos over at Stage6 to get a better idea of what this game is all about:

http://www.stage6.com/videos/search:Audiosurf

and over at youtube:

http://youtube.com/results?search_query=Audiosurf&search_sort=video_date_uploaded

I urge everyone to check this game out, it's availble on STEAM for about 10 bucks and it's from an indie shop of course. Apparently, all weekend, the servers that track all the stats have been down due to the unexpected amounts of traffic, that's a really good sign for these guys, but you won't be able to upload your scores, at least not yet as they've been down all night.

http://storefront.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=game&AppId=12900

Between this and Sins, it's been a great year so far!

It is indeed great. Game of the Year, no. If it had online co-op play as well as a vs. play to battle just one person rather than the leaderboard then maybe yes.

I'm sure Dylan is slowly counting his large profit. The game sales on steam greatly surpassed his expectations and he was forced to go by some new server equipment just to run the high score system.

I love it as well. It's probably not GOTY material, but it is really fun.

When I say GOTY, I'm being partially sarcastic but at the same time, I get euphoric chills from playing it. Nothing like listening to some of your favorite songs while actually playing a game about it.

Seeing how well it's done early on, I would think that they'll add to this game going forward, possibly 1v1 in songs? Being that Steamworks offers all the backend, it's not to far fetched to think they could add it in later down the road. Talk to Dylan for me :P

What difficutly and ship did you use? What songs did you play? Did you have Ironmode on? These are all factors that determine how difficult the game can be.

Techno/Trance/Electronica work great and are actually my favorite to play, well, mostly Trance. Paul Van Dyk, Oakenfold, Van Burren, you name it. Ever heard of the track Binary Finary? The beats work awesome in this game. Playing AngelMoon right now...

I love this game! I was wondering when someone else would mention it here on GS.

My favorite song to play is "Fading Entity" by bLINd (remix of a FFVII song).

Agreed, electronica is great. Daft Punk...meh. Best song I've played so far is one called Nuclear Sun. Nice and fast with just the right amount bump.

But definatly, check out the demo. Its like 350MB, so not bad. The demo also comes with the Orange Box Soundtrack.

Its my casual GOTY so far. Granted, its only mid-February.

That's a good point, it would definatley seem to fit the "casual" game of the year, I've changed the thread title just to clarify.

HAHAHA I thought that was just a photoshopped picture, turns out its a real game lol

Anyway, I'm about to play the demo and I don't have a credit card. Is the game being sold in stores with a key that you register with Steam??

LOL nah dont think so its more like...

VIB RIBBON

Vib Ribbon used to be an old Playstation game, you could bung in any old CD you liked and this rabbit would have to do cartwheels and hops over musical obstacles. Harder than Audiosurf, as the Rabbit is ALSO part of the line, and must remain in contact with it at all times.

Here comes vibri, the coolest bunny on the block. A mean little mover, vibri loves to skip and jump to music as she meanders along the vib- ribbon. This line stretches into infinity but it's no straight and easy road. Your floppy-eared friend will come across lots of obstacles. As the music tempo shifts, so does the rate at which the obstacles appear and vibri the rabbit may soon devolve into vibri the frog. Can your bunny bounce to the beat and become a beautiful winged princess? Load up your soundtrack and watch vibri go!

vibri can ride the ribbon to all kinds of music. The game CD includes 6 songs from Japanese group "Laugh and Beats" but the fun feature of this game is that you can use your own music! Just drop your CD in and watch as vib-ribbon works its magic, creating a level that matches the tempo and tone of the music.

Stroll along to smooth jazz, groove to house 'n' garage, or roll with it to raucous rock - it's up to you! From Daft Punk to Frank Sinatra, The Rolling Stones to Britney Spears - vib-ribbon can be as cool or as cheesy as you choose!Vib Ribbon Website

Yep, that was one of my major reasons for buying this game too. One of my favorite modes is ironmode along with that 'vegas' dude or the shuffler as I like to call it.

I wouldn't exactly call it a "casual" game. It is definitely "casual friendly" but when you get into Elite difficulty, it starts to become less and less casual friendly.

Since about 2:30 CST this afternoon (11:45 CST now) I have put in 6.5 hours into the game. It is so addictive it isn't even funny. And I've got many... many gigabytes of music to play (probably around 10-20, haven't counted in a long time).

Every time you buy a new CD you get about 30-60 minutes of new playtime. This game has endless replayability.

Unless you consider how repetitive the puzzle formula can be. I wish they made a character that made it similar to Guitar Hero. Then I'd consider purchasing it.

Just gets Frets on Fire if you want Guitar Hero for PC. This is something entirely different than Guitar Hero... and that's the reason I like it. It turns your music into a game instead of having a game where you make music (Guitar Hero, IIDX, DJMAX, Bemani, etc,. etc.). Every piece of music you put into the game has a different track made for it. The combination of being able to use your own music, different strategic characters and the points system makes for a high level of replayability.

It really cannot be defined as a music game because it is like a racing game as well.
