I've re-installed BF2 today after a few years and at first worked perfectly fine with patch 1.41, however when getting to the server scren the list was in red and i was told my game was an earlier version than the servers "/

After going to google and finding a beta of 1.50 i decided to install that to BF and now when i double click the shortcut on desktop or autorun off the disk my screen goes black and changes the resolution and goes back to desktop.

I know my laptop can run it since it worked before the patch, and I'm not really up for re-installing and downloading the patches again.

Any other solutions?

Might be punkbuster, I re-installed it on my new pc and had to manually download punkbuster and add BF2 to it.

The new patch might have restored the refresh rate that BF2 launches, which is initially 800 x 600 @ 60Hz.

What's you laptop monitor's refresh rate?

If it's 60Hz then you can ignore this post.

If it's not 60Hz, then you might want to edit the video.con file in your BF2 profiles folder.

Open video.con in Notepad.

Change the video settings to your preference, including widescreen resolutions, if applicable.

Save.

Launch.

I've read about other solutions, like forcing refresh rates, but this fix worked on my old laptop which was 1680 x 1050 @ 75Hz.

Been having the same problem but just more random, sometimes it starts sometimes not, like an old car in the winter. Mine was also fine before. I thought it had something to do with me forcing the resolution, AA, disabling intro movies etc. But after I changed everything from Ati's Catalyst Control Center to "application controlled" or "off" it has started just fine...this far.
