Battlefield 3 graphics card question

I'm not sure if this was already answered but was Battlefield 3 being played on a PC at E3? and if so what kind of video card were they running on? I'm trying to assess if I'll need an upgrade to play this game at max or not, I currently sport a 5850 right now

I'm not 100% sure if it is true or not, but I read that it was being played on a GTX580. I sure hope my OC'd GTX560 is enough to at least go 60FPS on medium, because I don't have the money to upgrade right now.

unless you @ 1080p or multimonitor your looking @ uyour hd 5850 being enough to play it on high.. maxing it out may be another matter.. recommended system requirements ask for a 5830/gtx 460

It was a 580, but I remember hearing them say that a 460 OC'd should max it out at around 30. Don't remember where I heard them say it.

I'm assuming I'm good with 2 HD 6950's 8)

assuming the system requirments are correct your wayyy overqualified heck a 6870 is overqualified/gtx 560 (no ti)

A gtx 580 should max it at 60fps .

Take this in consideration: in Autum is expected that Nvidia will launch the Kepler-based new lineup of graphic cards, and also teh AMD equivalents. Both lines are based in chips building in a 28 nm proccess instead of 40 nm as the current series. Those chips will be more powerful, more fresh (less heat) and less power hungry than current chips (is a generational jump). Due the size will be also more small probably the prices will be lower than in the current generation of graphic cards.

I currently use a 5870, but I'm aiming to replace it with a GPU that will smoke (or at least is waht I expect) the GTX 580 for a fraction of the budget.

I can't wait to see how this game runs. I really hope its well optimised and my 560 can run it pretty well. Im greedy and always want max settings :P but in BF3 I know my 560 will squeel. I wish I was one of those guys with an sli 580 setup lol

That mobo is only 89 euro for me :P Definitely will be my next motherboard for sure. Looks great for the price and its AM3+. Sounds like me and you could have similar set ups lol

I would honestly wait until BF3 is released or close to release, 5850s will be cheap then and might be able to grab a second hand one for cheap while ppl are upgrading to amd 7xxx or nvidia 6xx. I am personally holding on to my 260gtx until then lol.

It will do pretty good but might not get max at 60 fps. Depends on what resolution you want to play it at

This just occurred to me: What resolution was the E3 demo running at? Because there's a big difference between a GTX580 maxing it out at 1280x720 and 2560x1600.gameguy6700

just ordered a 6950 to replace my dying gtx 280, get a new cpu over the summer, maybe another 6950 in cf, and i will be set :Dferret-gamer

Once I find a yob, I'm so replacing everything with my PC. Dual 580s maybe? I think so. Why? Because I can :D

Alan Kurtz twitted that the game is being developed on PC's with a 5870 so i assume the game will be playable at least medium settings/ high with crazy **** turned down or off for anyone with an enthusiest first generation dx11 card (5850, 5870, 5970). Yea they were playiing it with a gtx 580 at e3 apparently but i assume that it was just to make sure they dont run into any problems with frame rates etc turning people off the game.

only 580s? You should go for at the very least dual Asus Mars 2 cards. And a couple liquid nitrogen cooled 8-core xeons :Pferret-gamer

But will that play The Witcher 2? :o
