I doubt it'll run very well. I was disapointed with how it ran on my Core2Duo E6750, Ati 5850 GB ram. It looks like the game was bottle necked by my CPU and there was something very wrong with the car physics.

It won't run very good. The GPU has big potential but with this CPU you won't be able to pull much of it. Expect tearing.

System Requirements

OS:
Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / Windows XP - Service Pack 3
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz, AMD Athlon X2 64 2.4GHz
Memory: 1.5GB XP / 1.5GB Vista
Graphics: 256MB Nvidia 7900 / 256MB ATI X1900
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c Compliant Card
Hard Drive: 16GB of Hard Disc Space
Sound Card: 5.1 Channel Audio Card
Other Requirements: Initial activation requires internet connection; Online play requires log-in to Games For Windows - Live and Rockstar Games Social Club (13+ to register); software installations required including Adobe Flash, DirectX, Microsoft's .NET Framework 3.0, Games For Windows - LIVE, and Internet Explorer.

why couldnt he run it? his specs meet the requirements as the CPU is concern. one thing ive learn is that steam always seem to match the requirement just right for your system, when compare to the box requirements of the games.

Hmm, if it doesn't run too well - I'll probably leave it, I've spent quite a bit this holiday sales and got quite a few games to catch up on. I've also heard how it depends on the CPU a lot and mine isn't great. Thanks everyone for the help though =)

I have a quad core 3.6ghz processor, 4gb ram and a 5870. It runs like crap, that should give you some idea of how well it will run on your system :D

The system requirements are a complete and total load of bull for GTA 4. The minimum requirements that Rockstar list barely plays the game. The "recommended" requirements barely plays the game at 20fps on low settings with a res of 800 x 600. You can tell the specs are a lie since the minimum requirement is a 7900 yet the recommended is an 8600 ????? any one with an ounce of sense knows a 7900 beats the hell out of an 8600.

To be on the safe side if you want to play this game at "console quality" you will need a pretty fast core2duo (3ghz or better) and a 9600gt graphics card or better. That is just to run the game at console settings and a res of 1280 x 720, if you want to max GTA 4 out you are going to need a quadcore/i7 and a highend GTX285 card (even then it will dip to sub 20fps).

This game is a complete and utter turd in terms of optimisation and not even worth the $5 that steam are charging for it. The TC may get around 20/30fps on low to medium settings at 1280 x 720 and that is being optimistic.

Assuming you have windows 7 + all 3 performance related patches , you will get approximately medium setting at 1280 x 1024 (maybe more) at around 30 fps (disable stuff like the realtime video editor)

Wouldn't happen to be an HP laptop would it?

I've got a very similiar laptop and performance is hit and miss with games. As for GTA, I've played it on a far worse processor with a ATI 1GB 4870. It ran ok; at least as well as the 360 version. I think you could run it, but you're going to need to do some tinkering with the settings to get it playable. I know Batman: Arkham Asylum runs beautifully in 1080p on medium settings with those specs, but as I said: Hit and miss.

Pretty low. The specs for this game are way off. Its a pretty shoddy port. Not the worst I have seen but shoddy.

You think thats funny? The funnt thing is that the "reccomended" vga card is the 8600gt, i dare you to run gta iv with a 8600 gt at medium settings...i dare you, it will run with 20fps perhaps even less!!!
