Sorry for the small pics.

I finished a few days ago and spent around 6 hours building, could not for the life of me figure out what to do with the fan cables from my case, but eventually through trial and error got it right. Anywho, specs and build below, I'll likely move to dual monitors in the future but for now am using the VGA input on my Samsung 32":

  • Intel i7 2700k (OC ready, @3.5ghz)
  • EVGA GTX 670 FTW
  • Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 Mobo
  • 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM
  • Corsair 650TX PSU
  • LG BD-ROM DVDRW Drive
  • 120GB Sandisk Extreme SSD
  • 1TB Hitachi Deskstar HDD
  • CoolerMaster 212 Hyper Evo Heatsink Fan
  • NZXT Phantom 410 (Gunmetal)

BTW, which games you think I should start with? Likely going to end up with SC2 and Skyrim, but after the build I'm a little short of funds :?

Strong build, perhaps a little overpowered for the GPU but I guess it gives you the opportunity to upgrade in that area in the future and not worry about the rest. Having an SDD for the OS is always good. I'd start by showing off what you can do with the power, and Skyrim or SC2 don't really do that. I'd go with The Witcher 2 or even mod out Crysis just for fun (plus it's a good game as well) which would suit because you can pick it up pretty cheap nowadays.

Nice solid system, though I'm not a fan of NZXT cases but that's just my taste and doesn't affect you at all :)

8/10. You should have stepped it down to a 2600k(exact same CPU clocked .1 ghz lower) and bought a CPU cooler, like the 212 evo.

In all honesty, I do wish I had a little more in my budget to invest in something a bit more akin to the Corsair 600T, but when the price is $160 I couldn't find a valid reason to take the plunge. Plus I bought the NZXT for $70 while it normally costs $100, so I figured for the price it's a good case. Knowing what I now know, there are a few things I'd do differently but I have zero regrets and would do it all over again in a heartbeat. I hope to perhaps do a build for somebody else one day, maybe once I figure out SLI (and develop a need for it).

tried overclocking that 670 yet? :D anyway, if it was me, i would pick skyrim and load up a ton of mods on it using nexus modmanager, i heard bad things about the steam workshop so i would only use that for mods that the nexus doesnt have. Oh and don't forget some cs:s and garrys mod, trouble in terrorist town is always fun xD

Forgot to list it, but it is packing a 212 Evo. And I mulled over the CPU pick for awhile but figured I'd go as premium as I could since it's the heart of the system and I wouldn't want to cut corners there (especially since this is my first build and I hadn't any experience with components before).

I did purchase Skyrim from Steam (DL'ing as we speak) and I don't have a large background with PC gaming, haven't played a PC game since 04. I'm excited to tinker around with mods so thanks for pointing out Nexus, I'll look into it once I get closer to gametime (question: better to DL the texture pack from Steam or Nexus? Haven't looked, dunno if it's even available on the latter).

Personally I'd get everything from nexus, it has the best selection. There are various graphics mods but make sure you get an ENB series mod (lighting, shading) and various HD texture mods. Don't go overboard with loading dozens and dozens of mods because you are bound to have some incompatibilities.

hmm, it depends, which texture packs are you talking about? i think bethesda has an official HD texture pack available, but theres also mods that re-texture most of the game such as "Skyrim HD - 2K Textures " which is on nexus, although i think its starting to get buggy since it hasnt been updated in a while. However, if you do install a texture pack that changes most textures, i would be careful when installing other mods that also change textures because they might conflict.

But if you do install a reasonable amount of mods, i would get a program like BOSS ( http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/6 ) to make sure that all of your mods are loaded in the correct order, and Wrye Bash is used to tell you which mods conflict and which ones are corrupt, very useful, Wrye Bash: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1840

Nice Build. Just mentioning that there is also a thread dedicated entirely to rating rigs and whatnot.

Broken links. Nice PC though, I'm slightly jelly.
