GTS 250 would be pretty decent, would be able to play some games on high as well.

A 512mb version can get gotten for $100 with a MIR, you can get a 1GB version for $120 with MIR, which is what I would suggest. 1GB is about all you need, but this is a very decent card. You could go with the 512MB version if your playing on resolutions below 1680x1050.

The GTS250 can run most games on full detail and high res with ease.
Should be looking at something like a GeForce 9600GT.
This will play most games at medium-high settings at 1440x900/1280x1024 res or lower.

Nah don't get that. I'm using one just now. It doesn't really cut it with some games. Prototype, Empire Total War and Crysis run at medium at 1024x768. Most other games run at medium at 1280x1024, some at high. I recommend at least an ATI HD 4670, but you would be better going for a HD 4770.This will play most games at medium-high settings at 1440x900/1280x1024 res or lower.

He wanted cheapest card to play medium settings and thats it the "cheapest".I personally have an older power supply lacking a 6 pin connector, so taking that restricition I suggest the HD4670. I have had it for a week. I cannot speak to its effectiveness on some newer games but it has no problem on high resolution medium graphical detail in empire total war, and is only $65.

Just something a tiny bit better (HD 4670) will be better. TC take it from me, someone who owns an 8600GT, they're not worth it, as they won't play medium well in never games. That makes no difference as Nvidia's cards run on GDDR3 and still beat ATI.The ATi Radeon HD 4770 is definitley the midrange card of choice because it runs on GDDR5.

ha ha yeah Angry Video Game Nerd is freaking awesome!!UltimateGamer95Yeah I know! I just realised there was another person in this thread with an AVGN sig. Best thing on the internet :P
I can't wait for the E.T. episode that will come eventually!!UltimateGamer95I doubt we'll see that for a while. And there isn't actually too much to go on for an epic review. So I don't know. Also, that loser "Irate Gamer" already did ET, and it was completely unfunny. If you haven't heard of him, watch one of his videos to see how bad they are. Preferably the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles one, just so you can see how much of it he copied from AVGN. Then watch no more. Don't give him hits. I'm a bit off topic here, but it doesn't look like TC is coming back :P
to run most any game on medium i would say at LEAST an hd 4670/4650 or a 9600gso hence why there always in my -500 budget gaming rigs.
radeon 4650 is a steel. amazing value and can run any game out there, but the 4670 is much better for not much more. imprezawrx500
no offence to owners of the 4650 but really it was made for those who couldnt find a 4670

I mean he can't even swear at the right moments and his special effects are really pathetic if there is any of them to speak of!
I'm like totally digging the car man!I vote ATI 4770. Real nice performance for the price there.

This isn't really a serious comment, but I think that's impossible...If you can run Crysis on medium, you'd run everything else on high. Just kidding.

realistically thats false in fact an hd 4670 can play it on high to highest (no aa or af) on an 18" monitor.
