I recently just ordered a new computer w/ vista and did some pretty extensive research on which antivirus to get. assuming you're running vista, which i assume you are, from everything i read ESET NOD32 3.0 Antivirus System is far and away the best. It performs extremely well, catching a very, very high percentage of viruses and, again from everything i read not experience, it by far puts the least load on your system (of the good antivirus software) which is obviously nice for gaming. It also apparently has fantastic customer service. You can get it on Amazon for about 40$ new, which was worth it for me, or shop around im sure somewhere has it cheaper. If you dont want to pay, definietly Free AVG is the best, i use it now and have been happy with it and it consistently tests the best out of all the freeware.
Hope this helps

You should run scans with something like AVG periodically to supplement your good computer usage habits..but seriously, defense against viruses and malware starts with the user and an establishment of good habits.
"Best anti-virus?"
The best antivirus is knowledge, just keep out of the "danger-zone"
1) Stay of those pr*n sites and never download a whole bunch of cr*p from page's you don't have faith in/or sites you are unsure of.
2) Use mozilla firefox, use the popup-filter, dont alow cookies. (you can use coockie on the sites you feel safe.)
3) Use the inbuilt windows firewall, have a free malware remover like Ad-aware, let it scan/run ewry now and then.
4) I always use freeware/shareware antivirus, they usally use less % of the CPU/RAM. (And they work just as good or better than Norton "antiCr@p"/F-secure "antiCr@p" this programs really are system hoggs and tend to eat on the performance, and they search evrything and does never find anything. :? )
5) Burn out pictures/photos, Work stuff, important documents, don't let things you wan't to have for a long time just be on the HDD, put' em on a DVD. (A system crash is nore likly than a virus)
