Someof my favourite voice acting was in Fallout. For a game that is over 10 years old, the voice acting beats that of most modern games. Also a top game all around.

Darth_Kane

Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Torment had NO voice acting, only a few lines, it was all text (that's what I most dislike about them and why they can never be in my TOP5 RPGs)

rofl, sounds like a noob trying to conjure up some credibility.

Best voice acting in an RTS is def. Company of heroes-it adds greatly to the atmosphere of the game.

- The Bard, in Bard's tale...nothing come even close. It is my choosen one. :)

*********Huge rift*******************

- Minsk. Packing steel and full plates, the stuff of legends, right Boo? It is not the quantity of voice acting which matter, but the quality of it and how it reach you...some of my friends where scared to even group the maniac! :P

- The fool/buffon in Overlord, although annoying sometimes and fully deserving butt-kicking...he is also brooming the sequel apparently.

- Neeshka....kinda an Imoen-like, but instead of little sister, just plain troubles. I dunno which character I prefer, but Neeshka renders her points amazingly well. SPOILER: Her half betrayal and Khelgar's point and you asking her nicely to come back and her reaction...really sweet.

- Domination commander, the guy in the copter. He really sounds, feels, and behave like some military dread-nut.

Most other characters in BG2 or NWNs series would definitely deserve an award, I can't think of any that was not awesome.

So what is the minimum amount of voiceacting required for a game to be considered to have voiceacting?

Jack Carver...yea just kidding

Max Payne, Sam Fisher, and Shodan are some characters that come to mind now. I'll probably post more later as they come to me.

FULL voice acting

But stuff like the alien language in KOTOR is acceptable (since it isn't very much)

Jade Empire!! For me it was the pinnacle of voice acting. Every single voice was dead on, as if the voice actors devoured their character's personalities in the script to the point of becoming them.:D

Haven't played NOLF2 yet but I bet it has great voice for Cate Archer.

paganinio

She's not bad, but she's not the same one as before. Cate was kind of changed a bit from the first game, and in more than just the voice. She comes across as younger and less mature, less assertive, and less eloquent and intelligent. It was one thing about NOLF2 that I didn't like.

Still, the NOLF2 Cate VA does a great job, I just liked the previous one quite a bit better.

I think it should be Andrew Ryan from Bioshock or anyone from that game because Bioshock really has good voice acting. Though I heard that Mass Effect still has the best voice acting.

Did you end up having dinner with Cate Archer? You seem to know a lot about her, so I just assumed. I demand to know all the details! What the night was comprised of, how the meal was, if you played a game of bridge or not afterwards, did she let you smoke your pipe?..please do not keep us uninformed.

Its alright if you did, quite a trend actually, given that Bojangles dined with Alyx Vance...(Note to self: tell Gordon...) and even I myself, the biggest loser, spent the evening with Lara - though the latter is not up for discussion my friends..

o_0 BL, you're a rather strange person sometimes. :P

Anyway, I was just describing the character of Cate Archer and how she seems to be different in the second game, based on how she acts and sounds in cutscenes and whatnot.

He remains silent on the set for a reason. The love of his life Alyx was stolen away from him by the madman that is Bojangles...Now his relationship with Alyx remains purely one of business as they act together on the scenes of the ongoing saga that we now know as Half-Life. Ahhhh, it has been a turbulent period for the ol' Gordon, but I'm helping him through it day by day. He tells me he stays awake every night, caressing his crowbar, plotting his revenge against his nemesis Bojangles...Each night if you listen closely to the wind and shut your eyes you can hear Gordon whisper the name Alyx over and over again...he is haunted day by day and yearns for her. How much longer he can go on like this is anyone's guess..

I've played countless pc games over the last 10+ years. The most memorable voice talent(s) I have witnessed in a game is in Thief 1 and 2 (but not 3).

The best recent talent is in Portal. Gotta hand it to Ellen Mclain (GLaDOS).

But other honorable mentions that quickly come to mind: NOLF 1 and 2 (did you know a different person did Cate's voice in each?), PoP:SoT, and Bioshock.

Since no one has mentioned it yet, I'm gonna say Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. Top-notch voice acting if you ask me.

Aside from that, most Lucasarts adventure games had the best voice acting that fit perfectly with their characters. Full Throttle FTW!

I would have to go with Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines. VV, Smiling Jack, Damsel, Officer Chunk, Prince LaCroix, Nines Rodriguez, Jeanette and Therese Voreman, Bertram Tung, Gary Golden, Ming Xiao, Heather Poe, Maximillian Strauss... they are all superbly done and all help further immerse you the player into the already quite believable world.foxhound_fox
agreed all the way :D

Nothing new here, but my top picks ...

VtM:B - Smilin' Jack (John Di Maggio)

VtM:B - Jeanette / Therese (Gray De Lisle)

BG series - Minsc (Jim Cummings)

How I do appreciate professional voice acting when I game. Head over to IMDB and look up these actors and see what else they've done, particularly if you have a 6-year-old daughter at home like I do: John Di Maggio also does the voice of Dr. Drakken from the Kim Possible cartoons, Gray De Lisle is also the voice of Emily Elizabeth from Clifford the Big Red Dog, and Jim Cummings is the current voice of both Tigger and Winnie the Pooh (along with just about everything else on TV, truth be told). :P
