thats a tough one... gotta be either Deus Ex, FF7 or Mafia.... i'm gonna go with FF7 for the sheer length, which for me is about 40-60 hours (played it through... 4 times now?)
I loved earthbound... I probably played it through like 7 times I never seem to have the patience to do that with any other game but for some reason I can with that one.Â
Both Half-Life and Half-Life 2. And not just because of the games alone, there are countless Mods that have spawned from them, including Counter - Strike (Source)!
I only have one game that I can call my best game and thats GTA san andreas. But if we are talking about pc games I would say Battlefield 2 or mabe far cryyÂ
I would have to say FEAR, ( about one week every night for a few hours playing finished it). Good games are the ones you GOTTA finish, others I add to that list are Rainbow six Vegas, Quake 4 and Star Wars Republic Commander. Games that suck you into the story and make the action keep you coming back for more.Â
surprised i didn't see halo. at least i think i didn't. that is mine for sure. too many reasons to count. great launch title, great visuals, great story, nail-bite-time-ticking-down ending, the LAN parties, and on and on. the LAN parties with my friends probably seals the deal. oh man, those were good times. i think i finished it, real time, in about 15 hours. could have been more though. it was a while back.Â
I'm not sure if I would consider any game that I've played to be the "best", but I will tell you of one that I find the most memorable.
Relentless: Twinsen's Adventure
It was one of the only games that a friend and I would specifically be waiting to get home to play when we got out of school. We'd spend 3-4 hours every day after school playing for about a month until we had both beat the game. Too bad I can't find my copy....probably couldn't even get it to run on my computer today if I wanted to.

Deus-Ex1 in my case. I enjoyed the alternative methods in the games so much that I insisted my friend to play it and enjoyed watching him also. His approach was totally different than mine.That's what I call re-play value. Not to mention the truely-movie quality story.
Yeah, Elite, great game. Sort of like my Sid Meier Pirates experience years ago too. Played F15 Strike Eagle via modem with a buddy and it was some of the best times ever. We flew low and fast, then low and slow painting targets and taking them out and then we ran like hell to get back to base while being chased by anything that flew and shot from the ground by every SAM site in range. Yeehaw! Great days! We couldn;t believe the awesome graphics as we flew over Baghdad at night.
I agree with the Half Life vote and Team Fortress as well. Far Cry too. BF2, IL-2, BFMEII with Witch King and Age of Empires (all of them) earned the right to consume hundreds of hours of my life. Finally, FEAR was quite refreshing, unpredictable and clever enough that I felt saddened when the experience was over. Half Life had that same affect on me especially after the Opposing Forces add-on. Blue Shift was subpar in my estimation.Â
Took me a good while to finish it. I play through it four or five times a year ever since I bought the sound card it came bundled with a few years ago.
MGS 3... I don't even own a PS2, I borrowed my friends PS2 over and over to play that game (I've finished it about 6 - 8 times already, the best game in the series so far.) The sniper duel with 'The End' is some of the most tense gameplay experiences ever.
Star Control 2. It took a good 120+ hours to beat it the first time. One of the funniest games ever and for the time great music that really set the tone for every race you encountered. Great story and again for it's time graphics that really made it stand out. IMHO it still in the top 5 PC games of all time and my personal favorite.Â
Metroid Prime was one of the coolest experiences ever, with its storyline, soundtrack, and visuals were peak at the time. The Halflife series also has very entertaining games.
