I'm getting a laptop next week, and I'll be able to play in the same room with my brother on his laptop and my other brother on our desktop. What games are best to play on a LAN, if they are online or not?

I really enjoyed playing Titan Quest + Immortal Throne expansion pack with my brother in law over LAN. It's online over IP is very flawed due to no closed server support (lots of cheaters), but over LAN with a friend/brother you don't have to worry about that. If you pick classes that compliment each other (like a healer/ranged/mage that supports a front line melee) it is really good.

Plus, it's extremely cheap these days, you can get both the game and it's expansion for $20 off of steam.

Kinda looks like Diablo :o my next question is if we are playing on a LAN, do we each have to have seperate copies of the game or can we install the same copy on each computer?

I believe you can just get one copy if you stick to just LAN.

Im kind of in the same boat as you on this, but I can give you a pretty big list of RPGs with non-MMO multiplayer options. I'm not sure if these all have LAN, but they all at least have some type of multiplayer option (some may require internet). You'll have to look at the specifics yourself.

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2

Icewind Dale 1 and 2

Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2

Dungeon Siege 1 and 2

Arcanum

Lionheart

Evil Islands

Dungeon Lords

Mage Knight Apocalypse

Sacred

Darkstone

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor

Two Worlds

Marvel Ultimate Alliance

Spellforce 1 and 2

Warlords Battlecry 2 and 3

I would have to say WarCraft 3 is the best for a lan with 6-12 people. When I say wc3 I dont mean the actual game I am talking about all the differant mods. Whats nice about laning wc3 is you can play it for 12 hours and not be board of it because you can do so many differant mods IE Dota or Battleships or Burb! or many of the very fun maze games. There is an unlimeted amount of differant games you can play with it so its hands down WC3 for a lan party

I agree. Give Titan Quest: Immortal Throne a shot. It's a Diablo type game with a ton of class combinations and fun loot drops. Plus a little history. I've spent countless hours on that over LAN with my brother and cousin.

Doom, Doom 2, and Heretic, with the Doomsday source mod is a lot of fun. It really brings back memories too. All 3 Serious Sam games are great fun in coop.

Try a good co-op game, believe it or not but I'm gonna reccomend Gears of War (game is shallow and mediocore, however it has a central focus on co-op)

I meant in coop. And FEAR doesn't have coop. And name the games. I've probably already played them all.

Serious Sam II is a good LAN co-op game, provided you're in the mood for mindless and wanton slaughter.

The most fun I've ever had in a Coop game has to be Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory!
Unfortunately, the Coop is only 2 player.

But there is a 4 player MP as well that's also a blast!

Serious Sam: The Second Encounter is also a great LAN game!

If I had a LAN like that set up I break out Rainbow Six: Vegas again.
