I recently purchased a HP DV6TQE it arrived yesterday, but it arrived with a dead pixel on the screen so I called HP and at first they acted like they were going to exchange it without any problems for a new one but when we got to the shipping part they tried to charge me 90$ to exchange them because the coupon I used to purchase the laptop had expired. So I told them that I was going to send it back and get my money back. So now I am looking for a replacement, and I can not decide what to get.

I want to match or beat these specs. I paid around 875$

  • •2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM (2.2 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.1 GHz
  • •1GB AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7690M GDDR5 Discrete Graphics(TM) [HDMI, VGA]
  • •FREE UPGRADE to 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
  • •750GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
  • •Microsoft(R) Office Starter: reduced-functionality Word/Excel(R) only, No PowerPoint(R)/Outlook(R)
  • •No additional security software
  • •6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 6.0 hours of battery life +++
  • •15.6" High Definition HP LED Brightview (1366x768)
  • •FREE UPGRADE to Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
  • •Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R)

Ive been a long time customer of HP but I will never do business with them again. I understand defects happen but they completely mishandled this trying to charge me for a defect with their computer just for a straight up exchange?! I am also not a fan of Asus, it does not have to be a major brand as long as it is a reliable brand

Thanks I would prefer a 15.6 inch and not be refurbished though. I would also prefer to order straight from the brand so I can customize it a little to.

If you upgrade to the 2630QM(quad core lower clocked) it only goes up to $1005, $1037 if you dont pay all at once.

i7 is a quad core and i5 isn't.

As for GPU comparison;

http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-7690M.67737.0.html

Should help you.

More like 40-50% going by 3dmark scores. The HP will be a lot better for gaming, though the MSI 16F2 would be the best in terms of price/performance in that price range.

I bought myself an ASUS N55S with an Nvidia GT555 (2GB), Core i7, 6Gb ram, 650Gb HDD, Bang & Olufen speakers (and subwoofer) and a BluRay drive in it for £700. Can't fault the machine yet, plays even new games at med/high settings 1600x900.
