Hey, I'm looking to get a new gaming mouse for ET:QW, Crysis, etc., and I was wondering what you suggest I get. I've heard a lot of good things about the G5, and it has great ratings on Newegg, but people did complain about its lack of buttons.

So, what do you suggest? Is the G5 the best, or would you recommend something else?

Thanks for any input...

Man I love my G5 mouse, but it has one pretty serious drawback IMHO:  It doesn't have enough programmable buttons.   If you pretty much use your keyboard to play most games (or a combination of keyboard/mouse) then you'll be okay.  But if you're like me and would rather control most of the main functions with your mouse, then the G5 may not be the best option.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Somebody in another topic I had about this on the PC Hardware forum suggested the new G5 thats not on Newegg yet, but is on Amazon. It's got a dpi of 2400 rather than 2000, and one extra side button.

I used to have a Logitech MX1000; a big, heavy wireless mouse that did a good job in almost all my games. Problems with the reloading dock eventually made me look for a replacement and I ended up with the second generation Logitech G5 Laser. While I can recommend this piece of hardware to almost everyone, it has some drawbacks: it's not wireless and it only has five (more like two) buttons apart from the obvious left and right mouse buttons. For me these are not big issues, and the adjustable weight and sensitivity (great in FPS games) more than make up for them, but I can see why some would prefer something different.

The best thing to do is still to visit your local computer store and get a feel for the different things out there, and make your choice based on personal experience rather than what you read in magazines and online. :)

If you can get the new G5 with the extra side button, go for it.  Personally, I love my old MX518.  Plus, the finish on it is just dead-sexy :P

You can never go wrong with a Razor Copperhead. It's been great:

I feel kind of screwed over since Logitech just now released what the G5 should have been in the first place. Does anyone know of any trade-in deals? (I own the old model with only one thumb button and the metallic/rust finish. Still a great mouse, but I'm kind of annoyed by its lack of buttons.)

I use the logitech g7 wireless laser mouse....it's awesome.  Sure it doesn't have a ton of buttons but it's great.

I'm going to agree with most people and say the new G5 with the extra button.
It has some VERY cool stuff.
Adjustable weights that are way useful for fine tuning the feel.
You can adjust the DPI on the fly in games from a button on the mouse.
So for example, in a FPS you can have it set high while your running around
so you can whip around real fast and then click down for pin point sniping.
I just wish they had a Lefty version but I got used to it and it rocks.

Either the Logitech G5, or the Razor Copperhead. If you use your fingers to move the mouse, the copperhead is better, if you use your palm, the G5 is better

The Logitech mx518 is the best gaming mouse I've laid my hands on to date...  (I've always used wired mice for gaming at home and wireless at work)

I'm still using a really old Logitech MX510. I looked at the G5 due to its super high dpi, but never upgraded because I hated its lack of buttons.

The G5 sounds good.  Don't get a Logitech MX1000 at times it is amazing but unfortunatly it disconnects quite often and it has problems with working on a lot of surfaces (especially mousepads for some reason).  Been using my trusty 'ol MX510 though her pads are worn almost completely off.  Hell maybe I'll get a G5.
