best gaming video card?

whats the best grfx card out there around $250ish, or less. not sure if i can do sli configure. i'm very new to the concept, but i only have one pci-express x16, so i dont think i can do that can i?

for around 250 would be the 8800 GTS 512mb.

But if you weren't on a budget the 9800GX2 is the greatest card on the market. I really wish I had 2 of those SLI'd.

How is that a good guide for beginners when it tells you that a 2900XT is superior than 8800GT and 8800GTS.It tells you that a 2900XT is WAY better than a 3870 which is just ridiculous.It tells you that an 8800GTS 320MB is better than a 9600GT and 3870 when it isnt.Imagine somebody looking at the guide and then choose a 320MB 8800GTS over a 9600GT cuz they are going for similar prices right now?

tell you what, u point me in the right direction because i dont seem to see that

im an nvidia fanboy now. didnt used to be. used to go with either ati or geforce. however, with the last two experiences i have had with ati support, i will not be going back to it ever again. they basically screwed me over, first time wasn't too bad, but second time was just crappy on their part, but thats a whole different story.

anyways, i was looking at the reviews for the 8800gt and gts, and theres not that much different other than 112 shaders vs 128. i'm using tom's reviews too btw. however, with the 8800 gt, i can get 650 mhz core clock and with the gts its 678. one is $174, the other is $194.

how do you guys feel about the game market's push for higher and higher graphics output? do you think the games in the near future will start having requirements like crysis and assassin's creed?

For that budget, i'd go for 8800GTS (512mb) because they are discontinued product now so the price might even go lower but its all up to the demand because i've seen alot of people trying their best to get their hands on of these beats.SearchMaster

That is unfortunat that reality caught up cause I think you would of love the 8800 gts 512mb card.

I have the 8800gt superclocked 512mb now you don't need or have to get something like this in order for it to last a long time but for me I bought the evga 8800gt superclocked 512mb and this is the last card that I'll buy for now cause the card that I have is out performing the pc that I have so that is why I'll stop for now.

Later and I do mean later on I'll build my self a pc and then that is when I'll up to another gpu. Not sure wich one I guess it all dependse on how much money I have by then.

To me I don't worry how long will this gpu last into the future far as games goes cause I'm not looking for the bestest the greatiest and all that stuff far as a gpu goes.. I'm not saying that you are cause you could be or you may not that doesn't matter to me. I'm just saying what I have done and may do latter on in the future.

I'm not sure how well crysis will play far as this card goes.

All I play on my pc is RTS games at the moment.

Anyways that card is a G80 based one which do have slower clocks then G92 however they have more bandwitch and VRAM which makes up for it.

The card you have linked is a good one and is better than 8800GT but only get it if you cant get an 8800GTS 512MB for the same price.

And when you talk about core clocks you do know that those can be overclocked or are you just too afraid to do it?:P

It is not a normal 8800GTS 640MB.It has 112 stream processors just like the 8800GT and the extra bandwitch allows it to outperform the 8800GT.

they said it is because the drivers for the 9800 GX2 arn't up to par yet so it's a little buggy but it's a frekin Beast. Nothing can beat it.

I didn't know that either, guess they stopped it as it is basicly the same as the 9800 GTX. And for the price, takes the value out of the GTX. Or am I wrong?

Download riva tuner or, ATI tool or, ntun. Overclocking video cards is so easy its not funny.

ntune is for nvidia ant ati tool is for both, rivatuner is better than both

the 512 is faster since it has afasr processro, the g92, jsut because it has more ram doesnt make it betetr

The 512MB GTS is a bit better than that 640MB card.
