Well, How much are they worth? My friend wants to get a laptop off ebay and He has money.
What are the rest of the laptops specs and how much is it?Processor: 2.0Ghz Intel Pentium M (Centrino)
Front Side Bus: 533Mhz
Memory: 2GB Corsair PC4200 DDR2 Memory
Storage: 60GB 7200-RPM Hard Drive
Optical Drive: DVD+/-RW Drive Dual layer Capable
Screen: 17.1" WUXGA+ Ultrasharp Truelife TFT LCD
Max. Res:1920 x 1200 at 32Bit color depth
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 7800GTX
Sound: Built In Stereo Speakers with subwoofer
I/O Ports: 6 USB 2.0, DVI Out, VGA Out, S/Video Out, PCMCIA/Cardbus
It has a 7200rpm HDD, which is nice, i'm assuming the GPU is high-end and the 2 GBs of RAM is excellent.
How much do you think its worth?
Will there be DirectX 10 compatable GPUs availible anytime soon? It doesn't really matter to me since I probably won't get a lappy until next summer, but I'm curious to know.Timstuff

There have been for a while now. The new MacBook Pro's as well as a lot of Asus laptops have the 8600M GT which I hear is a pretty good video card, not as powerful as the 7950 GTX mobile card but I think its as good as the 7800 or something similar.
The geForce Go 7950GTX is still the fastest-performing GPU available for notebooks, but just recently ATi started shipping mobile HD 2400 & 2600 parts in notebooks and nVidia has also released the geforce 8600M and 8400M series.
The fastest DirectX 10-supporting one I've seen that you can buy now is the 8600M GT, which is featured in the newly updated MacBook Pro, as well as a couple of notebooks from Asus (which are on sale @ Newegg).
The 7950GTX Go is a fantastic performer, with its only weakness being that it shares the same inability of doing (SM3.0) HDR+AA, and lack of DirectX 10 hardware support. But the GPU is powerful enough to be able to run most any game out there at most notebook displays' native resolutions, mostly negating the need for AA, and still has some great staying power.
Well, officially, they're out. The GeForce Go 8600GT's and Go 8400's are in Macbook Pro's and some other laptops. Powerwise, the Go 8600GT is *roughly* equal to a GeForce Go 7900GS, which while not the most powerful card of its generation (the GT, GTS, and the 7950GTX smoke it) it's a heck of alot more powerful than most notebook cards, which are paltry 7600GS cards.
ATI should have their HD Radeon Mobility series out pretty soon, and they should be superior to the nVidia offerings in most regards.
The 8600GT is a fine card, although I'm hoping they'll have a GeForce Go 8800GS or something pretty soon which is why I'm waiting on a gaming notebook. That and a lack of cash. :P

the best GPU for a laptop is the 7950GTx but you can also get in SLI too.[QUOTE="My_name_a_Borat"]Aren't the 8700 Go cards (overclocked 8600 Go) out now? I read something about them a few days ago. luamhtrad
