I notice a big difference between 7.1 and stereo no doubt. And how is 7.1 a gimmick ?7.1 surround on headphones sounds like a gimmick to me.
How does that even make sense??

Not a gimmick at all, you want to really immerse yourself in a fps, 7.1 headphones are a must7.1 surround on headphones sounds like a gimmick to me.

Logitech g35 are fvcking awesomeGamingVengeanceIm not exactly happy with Logitech right now, these headphones are really not all that great and definitely worth $160 + Tax so im going to avoid them right now.
I was actually looking at Sennheiser which from what i read is a very good brand. How do these look ? http://en-us.sennheiser.com/gaming-headset-xbox-ps3-pc-mac-stereo-u-320

Cause it is. Most of the gaming headsets are simulated so physically is still stereo, only the tiamats have actual seperated drivers, but even then I don't recommend.
A soundcard with dolby headphone can also simulate 7.1, so you can use a regular higher quality headphone.

Yeah, I have an Asus Xonar card in my new rig with Dolby Headphone and the Senheisers. It sounds amazing. I had Turtle Beach before and it doesn't even compare.Xonar DG (for headphone amp and dolby headphone if you want simulated surround)
Nice open back cans like Senn 558/598, AKGK702/702/Q701, Audio Technica AD700/AD900 etc
Clip on (or desktop) mic
I prefer open-back headphones. With closed cans, I feel like my head and ears start to hurt after a prolonged session of music listening, movies, or gaming. With my AD700, it's comfortable because it's super-lightweight, open back, and have had vacations where I would just sit at the computer for hours and it's like it's not even on my head. This is so important because you don't want headphones that make you feel very uncomfortable.Xonar DG (for headphone amp and dolby headphone if you want simulated surround)

this is pretty much the best option, every time this topic comes up
if you don't want a clip on you can get a desk mic, but it will pic up your keyboard sounds

^ That's a steal. :DElann2008I haven't used them, but the only complaints I hear are people not liking the colour or not enough bass, but that's subjective.
You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. I already have the Zalman Clip which works great for a $20 mic, and I haven't had a complaint about static noise or anything. This little mic you showed us is pretty darn cool though. I'll definitely get one.Get any pair of headphones you want and then buy this. The mic quality is very good as well

I wouldnt get anything other than this http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/pc-headsets/ear-force-z6a/44
its only 5.1 But its True 5.1 atleast. Dedicated subs in each earcup along with front center and rear. its real 5.1 and not simulated.
As to anyone who says that its just a gimmic....Go away..... They work period. i was playing a game of battlefield and the sound was so clear and so directional because of the 5.1 i could hear EXACTLY where enemys were. i mean it was pin point and just with sound! They work for console and they work for pc. Not to mention the sound quaility for movies and music is un matched.

They have a chart on the recent blog post. There is also a video comparing the mod mic, the Zalman, and a Blu Snowball. Surprisingly, te mod mic actually sounded the best.Get any pair of headphones you want and then buy this. The mic quality is very good as well

Ok guys thanks for all the input, im going to seriously consider a pair of sennheisers or the Audio Technica one.
If you don't mind spending a little more, the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pros are very nice. I've had them for about 3 moths now and highly recommend them.Ok guys thanks for all the input, im going to seriously consider a pair of sennheisers or the Audio Technica one.

My plan is to give my AD700 to my best bud. He has listened to music with these and he was blown away. He closed his eyes, listened in, and he didn't want to take these off lol. Keep in mind, my friend is a pretty smart guy, but when it comes to certain things, he's not so equipped with knowledge. He was gonna buy Dre. Beats haha. Not that they are flat-out terrible, but you know.
Umm. Gonna make my decision soon. Many thanks mate.
I think I'm going to order AKG 701 Black $243.37 unless there's a good reason not to? Don't know anything about this Quincy Jones edition and I don't care for any celebrity branded version (wish it was just plain brand), but it's black which I like. Legit?Elann2008
It's essentially the same as the K702 but different colour scheme I believe. It depends where you read, some say they sound identical, some say the Q has slightly more bass.
I have to warn you, some people love them and say they're some of the best headphones around, but some people really don't 'click' with them. A lot of people claim they 'need' an amp, i'm not sure to what extent that's true, but hopefully your xonar will do well. I'm actually planning on getting some for myself soon, I'd be interested in what you think if you do buy them.
EDIT: US amazon reviews seem pretty positive at least :)

Thanks mate. I'd like to invest in a DAC this time. But I'd still like to try them out with Asus Xonar DG and go from there.[QUOTE="kraken2109"][QUOTE="Elann2008"]I think I'm going to order AKG 701 Black $243.37 unless there's a good reason not to?
