I really need cash so i want to sell my computer. And i think im going to start selling computers for profit. What's the best builds to build and get maximum profit for. And wheres the best place to sell used and new computers. And one more thing. When you sell a computer, do you install the os, or do you just give them the box, and what's the best os to buy if your going to sell.

I would try Ebay and I would allow people to chose their OS.

you could try craigslist. It matters what kind of computer your selling, if your selling an average computer it'd most likely be to a casual pc person (someone whos not to tech savvy) then you should put an OS on it (go with the windows) If your selling a nice gaming pc the buyer will most likely know a thing or two about computers and will most likely know what OS they want, so don't put an OS on it.

Jiggly Wiggly is a user here on GameSpot who has TechNet, which I think is A Microsoft service which allows you access to the newest OSes even earlier than their release @ an annually rate. IDK ask him to get into the details.

Technet is a Microsoft service that allows you to download and use all of their OS's currently available and also Microsoft Office suites, and a few other things. It costs $350 a year but you can download as many OS's that you want. The downside is that you aren't supposed to sell these OS's or give them away to other people so you're not really allowed to sell a system with that OS on it.

There you go - $350 per year instead of $190 per build(Current Vista Ultimate + 7 Upgrade Price).
Oh; and You're technically supposed to be using it for testing, but most people don't and just use it for their home.

hey man I'm thinking about building and selling computers as well. How would I get some customers? Also I was thinking that I could charge a small amount per hour it takes me to build a computer for someone (as it only takes me perhaps 2-3 hours to build a computer without the Os installed). Kinda like when Best Buy charges you for them to repair or install components on your computer, but my "fee" would be much much more reasonable. So would anyone be interested? how about you smc91352? or anyone else?

Yeah but i'm doing it so i can help my dad pay off loans he has. So i'll probably charge 100-200$ over. Either way it still makes the computer alot less then buying it pre-built. I mean my computer the one i run, costs 800 to build. It costs 1,500$ at alienware so.. And they don't even use quality pieces, like mine.

not really I'd say around $300 maybe a little more. True though that that computer doesn't have much value (case and power supply are no name). Anyway maybe you and I can help each other out. I happen to be a walking encyclopedia so you can ask me anything anytime.

Thanks :) And yeah i'd love to help. I've actually just put my computer in my sig up for 1000$ on craiglist and i'll see what i'll get. I doubt i'll get anything because most people nowadays goes by numbers, but we'll see. I really hope i sell it. If i do, i'll need to learn how to reformat this windows 7, and get rid of my xp, because *cough* it shouldn't be there if you know what i mean.

Technically that price is not so bad when you factor in the free shipping. That is what surprised me about that auction was the free shipping.

yeah actually some really nice gaming machines on ebay are selling for dirt cheap. I'm thinking of perhaps buying one of em and repair or modify it to perfection and then selling it for a little bit higher than what I payed for it. Anyway keep me posted through my inbox how the whole thing goes.

I'm trying to sell the computer in my sig for 1000$ on craiglist, and someone replied saying "I just built that same setup that you have listed for $800 shipped on newegg, stop trying to screw people over!" What should i reply. I don't want to look like im screwing people over. Because i mean it's less then a pre-built but more then a own-built so it's in between i guess. It cost me 800$ to make.

As long as you 1)Do a sufficient job of cable management 2)Find a stable overclock for the a) CPU or b) GPU or both 3)Get a good CPU cooler like a DK for $30-$40, explain the benefits of it in the description of your rig Charging $200 is a high mark up. Perhaps offer a better GPU then add the price of the GPU upgrade plus 150-200 to the rig, since most people will look @ the GPU and CPU and how they perform in games. Oh getting a cool case with leds will sell more, especially the new Storm line, namely because their very gamer looking but still have a sleekness to them.

Tell him that just because he is willing and able to assemble the computer himself then he can get away with just buying the parts and putting them together himself. Many other people are unable or unwilling to put together a computer from parts on their own. So while he just bought a bunch of parts for $800, you are selling a 100% together and operational computer for $1000. It is a reasonable tradeoff, and a much better bargain than many would get from buying a retail premade (name brand parts, no bloatware, 100% non-proprietary parts for the custom built)

Look up your local computer hardware stores some of them might let you sell the PC without the OS installed some don't. Like my local Shopsws that I go to they let people sell their OLD OLD PC's from back mid 90s PC and get some good cash. Hope this helps.

I'm no expert on the subject, but custom built gaming rigs would probably be the way to go, if you try to compete in the ultra-low cost arena some manufacturers and many laptops will be competing with you with comparative or better specs. But prebuilt gaming computers from retail tend to be way overpriced so you will very likely be able to undercut them and still make a profit.

I think that alot of people would like i7 920s. And if you get them a good video card, and really cheap parts, you can make a good profit.

This'd kinda be like a con(Ponzischeme) where people already know that the CPU is good so you can charge a price alot more than the cost.

That was kinda' my point.

People believe that they have to be alot, so you give 'em an i7 920 with a decent video card(or better if they want), add really cheap parts and you can charge alot!; If you have any integrity, you wouldn't do it, but I'm just sayin' its probably the best way to get profits.

Lol i need money so i might just do that when i sell this computer. I put it off for 1000$ which is honestly a reasonable price, on craiglist. For the i7 920's, put it on ebay right? cuz lately comps dont seem to be selling there.

You should offer to put together computers for people and then charge people a "reasonable" fee for doing it. That's what I plan on doing at least.

See if anyone in your family would like you to build one such as cousins or uncles. Also check to see if any of your friends or even someone you know at school or work would like you to build one for them. Also you can make of video of your skills on Youtube and offer to build computers for people and see if you get any responses that way.

Check this guy's video out I subscibe to him on YouTubehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8AtdlvBYb8&feature=channel_page
