Ok, I've got

AMD 4200 dual core, 2GB mem (DDRII - 800MHz), 910 GB hd space, 550 PSU, and a decent BFG 7600 GT OC video card...

My mobo only has 1 PCI-E slot.  What is the BEST/FASTEST/MOST POWERFUL card I can get right now (or even in the next few months when DX10 cards start coming out) that is only for 1 slot.  No SLI available...

Yeh, I know, upgrade mobo..  That'll be later on..LOL

thanks...

What do you mean only one slot, only takes up one slot and not an extra one for the cooler? If so, then the 7950GT will be the best. If you simply mean a card that's on it's own, and you can sacrifce the slot next to the PCI-E slot, then teh 8800GTX currently.

Sorry, let me explain..  There is only 1 PCI-Express slot on the mobo.  Next to it there is a very small PCI-E slot that is I think only 2 X (not the larger 16X that the 7600 GT is currently in).  On the other side, there are 3 regular PCI slots.  I know you can SLI the Nvidia cards (if you have 2 of them connected (and I assume a second PCI-E slot -which I do not have), thats why I was asking about the best 'single' card.

What do the others mean by a 'cooling' slot is required?  My PSU has the extra power connector for video cards, but do you plug a cooler into the really small yellow PCI-e slot?  Or into the closest regular PCI slot next to the 8800?

 I know, noob city....

thanks for all the help..

the best card you can get is the Nvidia 8800 GTX but you will have to get a new PSU (550 isn't enough).

Ok, I see the 8800GTX is only a 'single' slot card (but its so big, it takes up a 'second' postion (even though its not plugged in)...
