Best Storyline : Which game do you think had the best storyline?
I find the storyline of Warcraft III : Reign of Chaos and its sequel The Frozen Throne to be the most engrossing.
The LongestJourney and its sequel Dreamfall also had an amazing story.
In your opinion which game had the best story. Feel free to mention your own choices.shariq166
Gonna have to agree with this, WC3 was some of the best storytelling ever for a RTS. Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 had a very outstanding story. Ultima IV just for the fact that it was a story based on your deeds, not the remove and destroy of a main boss.

One of my favorite storylines would have to be for Advent Rising, hands down.
I just wish the game was more popular for the next two installments to be completed....guess I'll just have to wait and see if they'll ever happen or not.
the morrowind expansion Tribunal had one of my favorite stories in a pc game.jrhawk42
 Agreed. Fantastic story line.
Add to that, gothic 2. The ending was killer.Â
Best Storyline: Metal Gear series (Damn Konami for not making MGS3 for PC)
Games with great storylines:
Star Wars Knights of the old republic series ( the second one isn't as good as the first)
Broken Sword series ( the first one is the best, the forth was the worst )
Gabriel Knight series ( the second is the best )
Jade Empire
Marc Ecko's Getting Up
Indigo Prophecy ( it's more like a movie than a game)
Grim Fandango
Syberia 1 & 2
Still Life
Monkey Island series (Funiest series ever)
GUN
True Crime series ( the first is better)
Mafia
Fable: The Lost Chapters
Legacy of Kain series
Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines
Devil May Cry

Yeah I know I love the PC.
I never said I wasn't one, I was saying that you are, and by using it as an insult you're being a hypocrite.Â

No, actually wowbagger2004's right
while it had dire presentation, i'd say the original silent hill's story was the best
i have never experienced a deeper, more intelligent and more emotional storyline than silent hill - it's just that a large part of it is interpreting imagery (say, the way the child monsters are nightmarish versions of the girl's taunting schoolmates, as an example) and the fact that the whole thing is written in clasically cheesy computer game jenglish doesn't help
but, yeah, really look at everything in the world, and read everything and think about it, and silent hill's story is amazing, horrific and touching - as well as damned intelligent... just, due to poor presentation, not very involving
i'd also have to mention max payne - it's practically the opposite of silent hill, the plot is very generic, you might even say cliché... in fact, let's say full blown cliché - but the presentation of the story is so damned amazing that every moment of it was a blast - the graphic novel animation was awesome and refreshing and unique (unless you happen to own comix zone!), and the voice acting was utterly divine
if we could just get a game that has a deep and intelligent and rewarding plot that also has an excellent presentation and sharp writing... well, we wouldn't be playing a computer game, would we?Â
[max payne's] plot is very generic, you might even say cliché... in fact, let's say full blown clichéA-S_FM
i think the fact that it nailed every Film Noir cliche perfectly makes it 100% charming and wonderfulÂ
Yep, best storyline ever = Planescape: Torment
if you're an rpg fan and never played Torment, do yourself a favor and try it!
Metal gear solid seriesForlornHope
The metal gear solid series has THE best storyline hands down. But since this is a pc form, id probly go with WC3 and expansion. If you never played metal gear solid before.... GO AND GET IT! Buy a PS2 and all the games. (should be around $140 on ebay. Beleve me, it's worth it!) :D
Anyone who isn't somehow saying that Planescape: Torment isn't the absolutely most fantastic and brilliant and deep storyline (and moreso setting) ever in any game on the planet.. Is currently believing an incorrect opinion! Or they haven't played it :p
Also, I loved the story behind Diver Down, which is an indie game some guy made with the Verge RPG creater engine. And Arcanum had a fun, interesting story that kept me surprised at the mysterious facts behind all the beliefs of the characters.. Fun stories and such, but not really engrossing with that special depth that Planescape has.Â
Never played Torment, but i liked i liked morrowinds story and i thought that max payne was good, Diablo captured me along with FF as well, but id have to say FEAR got me the most hahaha, im just a fanboy i suppose.
But well have to wait for what bioshock has been promised to bring :D

Dracunos
I've played Torment and really love it's story but I still think Marathons story is better. It's such an amazing blend of Vonnegut, religion and more traditional sci fi.
Half Life series
Advent Rising
Dreamfall : The Longest Journey
Indigo Prophecy (until the end) :(
Prey
Condemned
Condemned

Great and quite unique choice. Not many people give horror games the credit they deserve. Both Condemned and SH2 had great stories.Â
+1 for Planescape Torment, best written game story line ever .... nuff said!!
I am however, surprised that no-one has mentioned System Shock 2, I found that to be a totally engrossing storyline. A mad computer and a single protaganist being led puppet like through a derelict spaceship discovering what happened to inhabitants bit by bit, what's not to like??
I also thought that the original Deus Ex had an interesting story line, it's a pity the 2nd one didn't live up to it's predecessor.Â
