At this point, we know that Zenimax Media, Bethesda's parent company, opened up an MMO division head by Dark Age of Camelot's Matt Firor and have been working on an unannounced game. What we didn't know was that Bethesda let slip some information in the court case against Interplay, and now they have filed to redact those statements so their competitors can't find out about it.

A trusted source who wishes to remain anonymous informed DAC of these actions being taken by Bethesda. The deadline to file for redactions of testimony was yesterday, 19 January 2010. As we learned from previous transcripts leaks, there are 218 pages of transcripts from the preliminary injunction hearing between Interplay and Bethesda. We've only been able to get our hands on a few pages, but what we've seen has been enlightening. What Bethesda doesn't want us to see is information about their in-the-works MMO.

The Big Trade Secret ? Bethesda has "tens and tens of millions of dollars" and "close to a hundred people"working on a "secret" "World Of Warcraft" type MMO and they don't want their competitors knowing about it. They've been working on it pretty heavily since 2007 after assigning the team in late 2006. According to testimony given by Bethesda, the development timetable for an MMO is 4 years, so that would mean they would be releasing this game next year.

Bethesda also does not want their competitors, whether Interplay or big MMO competitors like Blizzard, to know whether it's Fallout MMO or not. Based on testimony released on DAC, they are not working on a Fallout MMO and they cannot start working on one until they win the rights from Interplay. Technically speaking, that means no Fallout MMO from Bethesda until 2014 at the earliest if the court case gets settled soon and in Bethesda's favor. However, if they are working on a Fallout MMO anyway, which would mean perjury and therefore highly unlikely [Edit : And just so people aren't confused, I am in no way suggesting Bethesda committed perjury], next year might see a Fallout MMO from Bethesda.

Source

Another MMO lol. I'm sick of it.

UPDATE : According to VG247. It's Bethesda's Elder Scrolls MMO.

ANOTHER MMORPG? - -MMOs are basically half finished games - and developers want gamers to pay for the privilege of filling in the blanks.

\

This is getting ridiculous. Developers have gotten greedy and lazy - they need to get off their ***** and start cranking out some quality single player games if they want my money.

I really hope this doesn't suck, I want another game like Morrowind and Oblivion, But I guess with a 'WoW styled MMO' they can charge a monthly fees, deepening Bethesda's pockets, I'm starting to loose faith in Bethesda.

An MMO you say?... if they are going to make it PC exclusive then they might have a chance but knowing Bethesda they will make a console version which will only slow them down, Huxley anyone?! :?...

All developers make MMOs for money. And just because all other MMOs have not reached WoW's success does not mean that they have failed.

If it uses real time combat like oblivion or even morrowind I will be happy. If it uses combat like 99% of the mmo games out there right now then I refuse to play and will continue to wait for TOR.

What? NOOOOOOOOOOO. I think i speak for everyone when i say that they should develop a massive singleplayer game that will play as a singleplayer game but it will have as big gameworld as an mmo. Thats what bethesda is known about!!

If it was an Elder Scrolls type MMO, sure. Hell, even a smale scale persistant world game (2-20 people) I'd be on board for.

First it was Fallout, then it was KOTOR, now it's TES. This is killing me. What beloved PC RPG will be turned into a vile MMO next? Baldur's Gate MMO? Diablo MMO? What about Neverwinter Nights, Planescape, Icewind Dale MMOs? Wouldn't surprise me at this point. I hate these studios and publishers selling out.

MMO's are cash cows so they are not going away if they can get just a couple hundred thousand people paying $15 dollars a month your talking millions of dollars which make it a very luctrative genre. So if you tweak out the majority of the things that people have complaints with when it comes to WoW you may actually get a decent amount of turn out. As long as millions of people shell out the monthly fees MMO's are here to stay.

Bethesda lacks the talent to create a popular mmo. Their games push technology, but are not polished enough to be appealing to the masses. Just like every other mmo developer. Biowares star wars is the only game that has a chance of getting a solid share of the market.

I'm sure in a interview when Oblivion came out, Pete Hines was asked about MMO, and he stated that Elder Scrolls universe single player is what they aim for, and always will. Why change? Oblivion was a massive seller, why change?

Great idea... Lets make a MMO just like WOW.

WOW is popular and the typical WOW player has played the game for around a year. They are just dieing to play more of the same right?

So lets make a game just like it except it won't be as polish and have very little end game content. But will make the game play similar so they won't be bored. Millions are bound to drop their WOW accounts in which they have hundreds of hours invested in to come and play a game just like WOW right?

Considering the multitude of WOW clones already out and their apparent success...believe or not.... Yeah, it kinda work actually. A lot of folks would actually drop their WOW account if they can play a F2P version of WOW. I find it sad though...I like MMOs but I dont want them ending up looking the same...

I actually have to agree with Wildflower on this one, besides Blizzard being a bad company of course. If you're going to make a mmo, stay far away from World of Warcraft. Attempting to manifolding from WoW is a recipe for a disaster in terms of getting players like me to care about your game. More importantly, you will be competing on Blizzards turf, taking into account WoW has been established for quite a few years. I wouldn't be surprise if Blizzard's next mmo will be divergent, unrelated and peculiar to not clash both properties.
