Nope, US is not in the game apparently.
IGN: What's the story setup for Generals 2, and does it tie into the first one at all?
Jon Van Caneghem: Generals 2 takes place ten years after the events in Generals. At the beginning the world is actually at peace. There's a huge conference where a landmark peace treaty is about to be signed. But moments before that happens, a terrorist attack takes away all of the leaders in attendance. The only leaders who are left are the generals and that's where you come in. We have three factions in the game, the GLA, the EU and one more we aren't revealing – yet!

The US will be part of the game. It's not even a question.

Why exactly can't they save it for an expansion? the fact that some consider that US must be part of the game is exactly the reason why it might be a good and profitable decision to make it part of an expansion. Why exactly can't they save it for an expansion? the fact that some consider that US must be part of the game is exactly the reason why it might be a good and profitable decision to make it part of an expansion.

Simply because Americans who buy this game expect to be playing as the American military, like they did in the first two games. Secondly, the idea of playing as the American military will sell this game much better than any other faction they choose to incorporate. Nothing is as iconic as the American military, after all. Thirdly, if they want to make a good story I don't see how they could do that without including Americans. They mentioned the war on terror, it only makes sense that the US military is part of it.

This kind of thinking is what is killing gaming. I'm just realistic and sorry airshocker, but that doesn't make sense considering how "tired" the US army is in gaming.[QUOTE="DanielDust"]The fact that some consider that US must be part of the game is exactly the reason why it might be a good and profitable decision to make it part of an expansion.

Then why do games keep focussing on the American military? By the way, the Army isn't the entire military.
Army, navy, etc, you name it, that's 99% of what most shooters in the last decade focused on. Warhead was a breath of fresh air, I didn't like Psycho much, but it was refreshing to hear something else than an American, RO 2 recently which has everything but Americans. How can you say it's not tired? devs focus on them because it's generic and easy to develop around it because it's so generic.
I'd rather play "southern" stereotypes than USA generic soldiers.

Because it sells, game after game. That's why it's not tired. People will become tired of shooters long before they become tired of playing Americans.
The reason Generals was so great was because it was simple. There was one resource which you could get infinite amounts of once you upgraded enough (excluding power which you just build). You didn't have to worry about unit limits. There was no diplomacy or anything like that. It was basically just "Build your army and destroy the enemy" and I loved that.
Plus it had awesome Music which is what really made the game special, so hopefully they have good music again or i'm going to be listening through Youtube while I play.
So... man on tank relationships confirmed?

...Sheila?
I have not played Generals, but if the style is like C&C or Red Alert, it's going to be dead within a couple of months. There really is no room for RTSes like that anymore. Hit me with COH 2, please.

Generals is still loved and played to this day[QUOTE="PernicioEnigma"]Did anyone read the article? It hasn't been confirmed it will remain a PC exclusive, chances are it'll be released on consoles at a later date.wis3boiit IS PC only Great, do you mind linking me to the article that confirms this?

It's an RTS... Much like with MMO's, RTS games are mostly PC exclusive.
Well I hope that part stays. All I can say is I'm still having pretty regular Generals LAN gaming sessions with a couple of friends, it really is a pretty fun game. The reason Generals was so great was because it was simple. Now I want to play every old C&C game once again, starting Tiberian Dawn
RoccoHout
I already started a month ago... TiberianDawn has a high resolution patch. Completed all of C&C and C&C RA, now I am working on C&C Cover ops, and RA expansions, also playing through generals.
http://planetcnc.gamespy.com/View.php?id=85&view=TiberianDawn.Detail#NewComment (this is a place to download the high res patch from)
There are also TFD (the first decade) patches as well as patches to allow you to play over LAN Netwoks A LOT easier now.
RA also has patches. Patches also fix the music in those old games which is labled wrong if you have the TFD version.
Generals also has some INI settings tweaks that you can look up to increase resolution and pull the camera back, (although the camera doesn't pull back near as well in Generals, as it does in Zero hour)
I hope these posts help anyone that wants to pull a nostalgic play through.
There are a good number of useful patches for those old games, I haven't tried it because I just found it, but here is a RA high res patch.
http://www.cncforums.com/new/showthread.php?t=2939 I will apply it later though! EDIT (I actually cannot find the download for the patch myself)
What was wrong with the Sage engine? Anyway, Frostbite 2 will look amazing in an RTS game nonetheless. Am I the only one though that finds Frostbite 2 from the first few screenshots to have a very similar look to what an upgraded Sage engine would have? Those screenshots...the look very...general-sy to me, graphically, which is a good thing.
Not sure if SAGE 3.0 could match FB 2.0 for graphics, at least in terms of lighting, and FB 2.0 is designed such that pumping out content is very fast so it produces a better looking game in far less time, and to make a SAGE 3.0 that could match the visuals would take much longer and cost more, thus it saves money. What was wrong with the Sage engine?
