The only company? Bit of an overstatement there.
I was a fan of Blizzard, until they bought up realid on the forums which caused an uproar with a lot of players. Then they pulled out of it and Mike M. (CEO) wrote a letter stating they "valued customers security" what a ton of **** if they value customer security, why even try go ahead with it?
Wrong. Valve continues to update all of their games some of which are going on 7 years.Bob McNaughton from blizzard talked about the support of blizzard games & the id thing.New WC3 balance patch woot. Blizzard is the only company that keeps updating their games after over 8 years not like others.

they are only 7 years but wc3 is 8 years and sc is 14 years old. You see valve only supports their games 7 years but as i mentioned blizz supports over 8 years. Big difference there.

He isn't wrong, Valve is still supporting some games for over 7 years so it isn't like they hit 7 years and stop support, they continue that is just how much they have clocked in right now. And they have 9 years of support for CS1.6, it's last patch was 2009. Blizzard and Valve both have very good support but Valve does do more, 144 achievements in CSS, almost 300 TF2 achievements (post launch ones I mean), new weapons for every character type in TF2 and a lot more. Not putting down Blizzard, I love them and their RTS games but I am saying Valve does do more. In this case you are wrong, he IS right. Valve continues over 7 years and Blizzard continues over 8 years, Valve has just done a lot more in those years.
Still I really don't want this to sound like a VALVE IS BETTAH THAn BLIzzARD, because that isn't the point of this at all, and as I said I play both of they're games quite a bit.
Since people still playing what should they do? And we aint talking about a small amount of players, hunderd thousands Daily , not to mention all big PRO tournamenrs based on WC3 , Starcraft AND latest 2-3 years WoW as well.... You think other companies would do otherwise if they were in same position? Dont think so , so its not about Blizzard. Valve and Blizzard are the two groups that continue the support for their games for years. While most other devs and so on dont even make 2 patches :(

counterstrike isnt made from valve. Also valve makes shooters for the most part. There werent something important like balance patches just pointless updates for steam, and bug fixes. Plus these games are shooters, the players have to host their own servers. Every Blizzard game has still access to bnettoday, even diablo1 and warcraft 2. And valve doesnt support their game as esport titles. Blizzard hosts tournaments for starcraft, warcraft 3 and wow with pricemoney of at least 10.000$ each in blizzcon every year.

Both make great PC games.

Trying to be smart? What happened to all those updates Steam gave CS 1.6? The major upgrade in TF2 and CSS? All the care they put into maintaining their servers? Don't try to be smart, and do some research before making wild satements like this.

This, the only game Valve made was Half Life (series), everything else is made by buying the modding team that made them or the rights while making them look better, more solid (L4D, Portal, CS, TF 2, Alien Swarm - I know it's free, but it's under Valve and it got there exactly like CS and the others - ). TF 2 is probably their only relatively new game, because of the style they used, everything else except the cartoon look is made after TF 1 that was made from a mod..Valve made Counter-Strike, so I don't know what you are talking about. Maybe you should be the one reading properly.
I don't need to because I know how CS was created. Sure Valve bought Gooseman, but buying a concept and offering official support for it is not the same as "making something". It's like a kid that downloads an essay for school, changing a few words to fit the style he'd want to use, it requires almost no thinking and it gets the job done in minutes, why should he spend hours if not days or weeks to make it.

Blizzard and Valve are both practical developers, they made something good, popular, that sells and they continue to use the same formula difference is that Valve is small and they want to expand their offer, to gain more money and power so, unlike Blizzard they also look for talented young people that had very good ideas for mods, ideas that would bring them a lot of money if they'd invest a little bit into what those modders already did. Valve is something like Blizzard and EA at the same time, Blizzard because they have their own way of doing games and they take a lot of time to polish them and EA because they buy talented teams with great ideas ideal for their logo ;), but it's an extremely poor EA at an extremely small and almost insignificant scale compared to reputable huge developers.[QUOTE="HFkami"]

I agree, Valve has released a flood of new content and patches for their games. Adding Mac support after the game was released... I've never seen people more excited for a patch than a Valve patch. Heck, when VAC banned 12.000 MW2 players they got that fixed quickly then just gave them Left 4 Dead 2! I don't think any other company would give away $500,000 for a mistake that like that. Oh, and Alien Swarm? Yeah, amazing game and it's free ------> from valve.Well technically giving away a digital game you as a software vendor/distributor aleady own isn't the same as giving away $500,000...in reality the only thing it "cost" them is whatever bandwidth people used to download it and *maybe* some lost sales from people who might have otherwise purchased the game (probably a small number out of those 12,000 people).
With that said, yeah it was a very stand up thing for Valve to do, and the Alien Swarm gift from them is nothing short of awesome. Valve is a great company!

You are wrong, period. Simply put, you are wrong. Counter Strike IS MADE BY VALVE. It was originally a mod but Valve liked it so much that they hired the mod team making it and made than released it as a retail game, that is fact, they also made CSS which just got a major patch and is still getting support to this day. FPS games are supposed to have dedicated servers, match making is known as the devil of PC gaming for FPS games and dedicated servers are always a better system and one of the standards of PC gaming for FPS games, that is a fact. You are horribly misguided, look at Team Fortress 2. That has recieved more free content, like weapons, maps, achievements and BALANCE PATCHES than any other game I have ever played in my life and they have a second round of weapons planned for 5 of the character types, that is fact. What you said isn't true, that is fact. Umm people can still play old Valve games online too, fact. It is true that Valve doesn't hold big tournament for their games but CS games are some of the most competitive PC games (possibly the most) ever created and they have constant tournament.
Please stop trying to argue this, you are wrong. You don't know enough about the topic and are just spitting out info like you know what you are talking about, what I have said here is based on fact. Sorry but you don't have a clue about all Valve has done for their games, especially TF2 which has gotten more love from Valve than all Blizzard games combined in terms of free content.
EDIT: Why can you not accept that there are companies that are as supportive, arguably more, than Blizzard? I'm not insulting them I am just saying they aren't the only people that support stuff.
