First of all, I'm gonna go sue steam. Before the sales started, I had like 400$ in my PP account, now I'm done to 230 :(. GOD DAMMIT STEAM! Anyway, I'm torn between Saints Row 2 and Borderlands. I'm favouring SR2 but still am confused, which is a better choice? I got episodes of liberty cities the other day, but basically I like to play the sandbox types for these type of games. Like randomly beating the people, running from cops, helping people(ambulance, taxi driving) etc, are those possible in SR2? I'm not much into RPGs so thats another downside for me for getting Borderlands.

I have played Borderlands, and while it may be fun, previously I purchased Hellgate: London, which is basically same thing (RPG with millions of weapons/loot), except in the apocalyptic settings. So I had that dose of fun. With Saints Row 2 however, I heard it runs terrible on computer and is very poorly optimized. I still went for it, and bought it. I was looking for something more different than GTA and hopefully this will be it. With your choice, it seems Saints Row 2 is the one. You like sandbox games and dislike RPGs. What else can you say?

I would say Borderlands. But if your PC can take Saints Row 2 then try it out. I just didn't get to try Saints Row 2 cause when i played i lagged all the time when driving and it was awful i had to walk all the time cause i couldn't take a car :/ But awesome game. Just a lot of glitches :?

I should be able to run SR2 fine on my PC. I got a Q9550 with 5850. The main question i got is that how open is it? Can you completely give up crime and still do a lot like in old GTAs?

Last I checked, Saints Row 2 on the PC is horrible. Tons of bugs and glitches, its a horrible port. I'd go Borderlands, its $20 for it + all the expansions today on steam. Get Saints row 2 on the console used or something, you can probably find it real cheap

Well, going on a rampage is pretty all SR2 is good for. The storyline itself, as well as the core gameplay, are mostly dreadful. But if beating people up and going on killing sprees is your thing, it might be worth it.

I doubt the port caused the characters to turn into annoying morons and the entire game being based on the misconception that all this 'yoyo gangsta blingbling' crap is cool.

If you don't like it that much, suit yourself. I thought that the missions and the side activities were interesting and very amusing, almost more so than GTA (definitely more so than IV). Going on a rampage is probably the most boring thing to do in the game since the cops and gangs attack in waves, so it's rather predictable. To each their own, I guess, but I found it to be a great game.

Unfortunately, the optimization is as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I'm not sure what kind of hardware it takes to run this game smoothly, but the constant stuttering, even at low settings, makes it practically unplayable. This is actually one game that I would recommend for the console over the PC since it doesn't have these problems on the console.

how can even compare an epic game to that crap called Saints Row 2, - if you want something like SR2 - just try the new APB. Borderlands is epic game - try it and you'll see what I mean

Having played both (both on the 360 and PC)..all I can say is: SR2 is fun. GTAIV is not.

Also I hope that APB recommendation is in jest. Word is that most who've played it think it's downright horrible. PC Gamer also gave it an abysmal score.

I played the beta and thought it was a great game. I don't know what people were expecting from it. I was expecting an openworld crime-police multiplayer game and got it.

Borderlands is like 95% fps, with 5% rpg. You get missions from random outposts, you upgrade to different weapons as you go along which requires minimal thought, and you level up which is just there so you can gain health, and stat points so you can fight harder enemies.

However, I'd only suggest Borderlands if you've got friends to play it with. I played it with a friend and we had a blast, but it was not quite so fun to just play by myself.

I've been playing Borderlands by myself and it is great, dunno why people say you have to absolutely play with friends. If you like FPS and the idea of a continued reward system then go for it.

I'm hesitant to recommend SR2 on PC because truth be told, it was a poor, poor port-job. But I've got over a hundred hours easily and I can probably chalk 90% of that time up to co-op. If you can get around the constant dips in framerate and driving lag, it's a fantastic experience. Especially if you have that friend who you watch action movies with, watch break.com videos and all that stuff. Take SR2 LAN, or over Skype.

If it came down between one or the other, get Borderlands. Again, as long as you have friends to play with.

Omg I absolutely agree. Even if you might be joking, I whole-heartedly agree with that statement. Maybe not the most "compelling", but I was playing GTA IV again the other day. The thick Russian got kind of old to me after a while. I missed the wackiness and more-or-less uniqueness of the SR2 characters. I think SR2 and ME2 are neck-and-neck at this point for VAs I like. Though NPH was criminally underused in SR2, when Adam Baldwin's role in ME2 was really insignificant. Sure GTA is written better than SR2, but the story is much more rewarding. You play a crime-fiction sandbox game, you pay to see people get messed up. SR2 gives you this straight up. Thoroughly enjoyed the main story.

Plenty of time to spend in gaemplay - and expansion packs. I tried getting in to Saints Row 2, but couldnt. Actually-havnt played Rockstar games since Vice City.

Anyway, thatd be my choice. Even again.

Clearly borderlands, its not that saitns row 2 is bad or somethings but it runs like crap. WAIT, you said you enjoying beating up people and running away from cops in gta? Then get saints row 2, it does the same thing 10 times better than gta iv. It is trully insane.

You can actually use Cheat Engine to slow the game down to normal speed. The problem is that all the cutscenes will be slower as well.

I do not recommend either

Saints Row 2 is just a bad game; not bad in terms of gameplay, just glitchy, buggy, and more trouble than its worth.

Borderlands in ultra repetative; granted my highest level is 20, but frankly that took way too long and everything is the same. Its fun in that its basically like a Diablo-clone, only played from the first person and set in a Fallout type of world, but ultimately it is a game best played on console with three other friends.

Of you prefer GTA-type games then you'll like Saints Row 2 with it's over the top action and humor.
