There have been various sales for Borderlands on Steam in the past that I ignored simply because I didn't have an interest. However, after looking at the second one for a little bit, I find my curiosity rising for this game.

I am a fan of L33T games such as Diablo/Torchlight, etc. One of the major selling points of the game are the sheer amount of guns and things to collect, which is very cool.

Simply put, is it still a good game, is it worth buying, and is it good on single player as well as over the web?

It's fun when you play it by yourself, but it's even better when you have someone to play with for Coop. So in other words, it's still worth a pick up. Make sure you get the GOTY version as the DLC is actually pretty good in this game.

It is a fun shootan game with a surprisingly decent loot system.

Just dont expect good gunplay or good enemy/location variety.

In this case you can't really go wrong with it. But it is not very strong on competetive multiplayer.

I played through half the game in COOP and it was superb... I also played through the game 3 times by my self and still had a blast. Borderlands is a must have for shooter fans. Borderlands 2 is not long away... I cant wait :D.

Excellent game and well worth it.

The DLCs are excellent fun as well.
Dr Ned DLC was okay.
Moxxi's Underdome is mainly for playing with others.
Secret Army is awesome.

I did not play the Claptrap DLC, but heard it was fun. I own it though, but just haven't had the urge to go through Borderlands again since I bought it on sale.

You can easily sink 50+ hours into it and replayability is there because you New Game+ it a couple of times and all the enemies will scale and become harder/"awesomer".

Thanks guys! Most likely, if it goes on sale for the summer, it'll be at the top of my list.

It's a fantastic game. I'm actually playing through it again before Borderlands 2 comes out. I played the entire game the first time solo. I've played through this second time solo and with others and its awesome. Must play game!

I didn't like it that much. The guns felt very junky and inaccurate. Enemy animations didn't look so good. The graphics looked odd to me, and I didn't like them. Rocket launchers don't have nearly enough kick to them. Smaller enemies should be flying through the air when they get hit, but they don't. The quest system is very bland and linear.

Some of the boss battles were kinda fun. The loot system is pretty awesome. The game has its moments, but too many factors just aren't up to par for a FPS game.

It's some fun co-op but the shooting is unsatisfying and the missions get stale quick outside the DLC. I personally prefer Left 4 Dead when I want to play with friends.

Surely any game is worth getting if its good enough regardless of how long it's been out. Not long ago, I got Black and White 2 which has been out since 2005.

Not along ago, I got Planescape Torment, the age isn't my point, was just wondering if it was a good game period.

The title of your topic is 'Borderlands still worth getting?'

The word 'still' implies it may or may not have decreased in quality since it's release. If you had simply wanted to know if it was a good game or not, you should have omitted that word.

So, I am aware your point - even more aware than you are, apparently. I was merely trying to help however I could.

You're welcome, by the way...

I personally got bored with it way before I could experience much of the game but even then I could appreciate the art direction and the loot system, but Borderlands 2 sounds more along the lines of what I wanted out of Borderlands 1. The GOTY edition goes on sale all the time so I'd be sure to pick it up during the Steam sales coming up soon.
