You need CCC to be able to turn the fanspeed higher in a profile. Depending on your ambient temperature and even a little airflow, you could just run it straight out of the box with just the driver with no problems. It will be hot. I think most idle 70-80C without adjusting the fan speed. Overclocking, I have no clue how hot it will get. The real issue seems to be the faulty driver or CCC which MAY cause BSOD's, although no one is sure yet as to what it exactly is, only that it exists and is hopefully being ironed out. Some say it is CCC, but on ATi's website, people have said they installed just the driver and they are still getting random crashes.
I had crashes in TF2 until I set the Catalyst AI in CCC to disabled or advanced, the standard seems to be crashing it. I also turned all settings that I could to "application controlled." It has fixed my specific crash. I haven't even installed any other games yet, so I can't speak for the stability of it with others.
So I take it the card doesn't overclock very well?

It overclocks fine if you increase the fan speed, which is too slow by default.
[QUOTE="expanded"]well if you get atikmdag.dll tell me lol.. cause i think i just fixed that part of my problem when i play crysisMarfoo
Did you you get that sorted out? I'm curious. What did you do?
If you push a certain spot on the card cookies will come out... That E7200 should have no trouble hitting 4ghz like its 8 series siblings.X360PS3AMD05
Well, I won't have any extra cooling solutions other than extra fans and Arctic Silver.
And I'm on XP. If I experience crashes, I'll be pretty pissed.
I dont know about the 4850, but with my 4870 i have it overclocked to 790 core/1100mem and my fan speed is set to 30% and i idle @ 40c load about 55-60. And ive never had a crash even on my old nforce 570 board.beefdog

Those temps seem iffy to me. I guess the Antec 900 is better than a Thermaltake Armor+ full-tower because I idle at 53C, load at 58. And I have two fans blowing towards my card. Hmm.. Unless I'm not mistaken, you must live in Canada or Minnesota where it's nice and cold. I live in southern California where it's either warm or hot. I mean, 40C and 53C is a huge difference. And it doesnt look like I'm hosting a BBQ party in my Thermaltake armor.
The Antec 900 is badass. I idle at 38C and load 50-55C with 50% fanspeed.TrickyNicky
It doesn't have to be one constant fan speed. 35-40% is more than enough at idle, and activate another profile with 50-55% speed when you're gaming. That way the card is silent when you're not playing a game.
