Bought a 6870 and . .

So I gave in and replaced my 4890 with a 6870 and I think it was a good choice. Just over 15000 marks in 3D Mark Vantage, although the drivers need work. Call of Duty World at War (as an older FPS) still slows down into the mid 20's @ 1080p with everything maxed despite a 965 and 8GB of DDR3. Crysis is smoothest at High. If you were looking at a 460 get this instead, better than that and a 5850 and pushing into 5870/GTX 470 performance. Still hits 60 degrees like 4890 too with similar noise levels.

I'm glad to hear that you're happy with it. I'm very happy with my GTX 460 1GB. With a quick overclock and no extra voltage, it runs like a 6870. And you can get one for only $199 now :P. Temps in gaming are mid-60's.

Some thing is wrong with your PC if your dropping into the mid 20s at max settings on 1920x1080, I refuse to say those numbers with a letter after it since PCs had high def resolutions before TVs and didn't use that i and p crap because there was no i or p.

Your PC might be getting bottlenecked in WaW by it's programming. Happens to me in Bad Company and I'm running a GTX 460. Good to hear you're happy with that though; will consider reocmmending it to friends. Adam_the_Nerd

Thats good to hear that its performing well, I am planing on getting a GTX 470 at about christmas and since the 6870 poped out it just nailed a sweet spot between 5850 and 5870 where the GTX 470 pops right in as well, but seen some benches and the CF is better tesselation and AA just kill it, where as the GTX 470 dips beacause of those but leads up to 5-10 Fps in games, but without tesselation and AA they are on par. So obvious that 6870 has a couple of new features but I can say the majority of gamers wont use them yet. GTX 470 still sounds good, will just have to see what the 69xx will bring us. And Merry Pricedrops for everybody.(although nothing extreme I presume)

One thing I don't get is why your CPU score is so much higher than mine. I've got my i7-920 overclocked to 3.8GHz, yet my CPU score is only around 23,247. The same thing goes forkilerchese; he's got the same CPU as me, but his score is way higher (43,538 ). Does it have something to do with having Hyper Threading on?

That's absurd.

If you have an Nvidia card and you're running Vantage, you really need to turn off the PPU (physics processing unit) in the benchmark settings. That's the only way to get a real score for comparison.

lol.. I know. I've run mine with PPU on to see how high it scores, but it's misleading.

I have unintentionally taken over this thread by not turning off PhysX, you guys are all making me feel like I'm a troll :x

Mafia II is maxed out, apart from PhysX and AA which I'll turn on. Drivers need to improve for some older games, but the 6870 looks like a decent purchase.
