WePC gamers are in trouble, soon more and more FPS games will all be Windows Live onlinwe including Crysis and allready Halo 2 and shadowrun. WHich means you will have to pay money for money for a single game. and lately, they are making it so Xbox 360 players are better than CPu players by Making auto aim features for Xbox 360 and making it so your bullets spread apart from where you want them to fire yet cant think of the word right now. I went to target and looked and looked at the PC games section when i saw the cover of SHadow run i was upset, on it it says (Play with 360 Gamers!!!)As if they were better than PC gamers, not only this but they are making graphics purposely better on the 360 than PC. i order a boycott that absolutely not 1 Windows live product be bought! there is no reason for use to have to pay for a service that is allready free for so many other games! so long ago! DOESNT BILL GATES HAVE ENOUGH MONEY!!! BOYCOTT!!!!!

There is a distinction that people need to realize. "GFW" is different from "GFW Live". A GFW game just meets certain criteria from MS and is not part of the "GFW Live" program. The GFW Live program is what Halo 2 and Shadowrun are part of. Publishers are extremely weary of joining the GFW Live iniative due to the restriction MS imposes upon them. It's almost like making a game for the Xbox, as MS takes control of what content is allowed and all patches need to be reviewed by MS in order to pass the GFW Live certification. Not to mention, a lot of games support mod communities, which is a no no for MS. The only games that might get the cert are from MS themselves, as I wouldn't worry about 3rd parties at this time.

The important thing to do is vote with your wallet. Don't support the GFW Live games, and publishers will resist, as they will not shoot themselves in the foot. MS is an extremely aggressive company, and their end goal to to dominate the gaming scene not only in the console arena, but in the PC arena as well, and this has had a negative impact on PC Gaming in many people's minds.

The overwhelming majority of PC Gamers don't have an Xbox or Live for that matter, so that's not the point.

I do. Have my 360 and my crazy desktop. core2duo extreme qx6700, 2gb pc6400 ram, EVGA 8800GTX KO, 160gb Raptor

I don't see what all the complaining is about though. OMG if you want live you have to pay....oooh the horror. I for one will not be boycotting it. I think it's a nice addition to games.

Windows Live is not available to 3rd party developers as yet and probably wouldn't be until next year. It's Vista only so this wouldn't happen until developers make the switch to vista. I doubt all developers will use the service but i am positive many will use it just to save cost. Frankly, it's a nice addition plusthere are free silver accounts which maintains the essential features.

Wait just i just blink and slip into an alternate universe!?

PC users will have to pay to play regular netplay games on gameservers hosted by other paying ppl that like to host just for the pleasure of giving gamers a free place to game?

i love this place.

That's really not the issue though, about the cost of Gold that is. It's the dilemma of MS's control over the developers as far as game content is concerned, not to mention the complete absence of any mod community allowed to participate in Live enabled games. That's the bigger question and the problem PC Gamers have with the program. And the fact that the majority of PC Gamers hardly want their games "altered" for the "privilege" to play console gamers(ie..Shadowrun). MS needs to rethink their strategy, as without a massive push from third party support, this whole initiative will be gone before you know it.

I don't think GFW Live is going to be some gaming holocaust driven by MS, but I do think they need to re think their strategy. Cross-platform play really isn't all that exciting when it boils down to it. I've been playing Shadowrun, and while I think the game is fun so far, the whole "console feel" to it drags it down, what with the lame match-making service and bad voice support. Face it, the developers that really matter to the PC's market have stated they refuse to use GFW Live. I could be wrong, but I don't see this service really catching on en masse.

Microsoft = fail.

So far, no GFW Live games even half-warrant the purchase of Vista. I am glad nearly all developers are staying away from it, as PC Gaming worked fine before Microsoft tried fiddling with it.

Where the hell are you getting your information from? No mod community? $60 per month? Xbox360 controller only? What the hell?

I'm boycotting this thread for misinformation. We can still mod the games, you don't have to pay AT ALL to play online, and you don't need to buy an Xbox360 controller.

chitty.

that is what i would call a horrid estimation. it is much higher.

and how many people do you think read your post and cared, and was influenced towards your side?

-1.

Everyone already made their mind when they read your grammatically incorrect post.

You had no clear connections in logic, besides "I don't want to pay money."

The post about mod communities, and patches was intelligent. Yours was chitty.

I personally would WANT to play against xbox gamers, on a fair playing ground. If for CoD4 you can play against xbox players then I will buy and actively play that game for more than 2 seasons.

There's a lot of misinformation in that post for starters.

Anyway I don't think GFW live will become a threat at all since a lot of devs refuse to embrace the system,(In fact no dev other than MS themselves are even planning to use it with future games) which is of course a good thing. Silver might be free, but MS is putting everything within a closed environment and restricting what PC gamers usually get for free with their games(i.e. creating servers) and making them exclusive to gold members. It's a stupid system and just proves that MS wants to colonize the PC market.

AFAIK it's not available to any developers as yet.The Gold dedicated servers will have multiplayer achievements but there are a lot more silver dedicated servers which are provided by Live. Anyone can host a dedicated server and they chose if it's Gold or Silver.

Dedicated, yes. Non-dedicated? They have to be a gold subscriber.

There's really next to no justification on the pricing of GFW live.

Who plays peer to peer on PC? I knwo I never tried it since everyone prefers to play on dedicated servers. If I tried I am sure no one would join.

I do too.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 CPU @ 2.4Ghz 1066FSB

Intel Bad Axe 2 Motherboard

Dell 24inch Widescreen 1920 x 1200 Monitor

4GB Ballistix Tracer PC6400 DDR2/800 Memory

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB PCI Express X16

Logitech G7 Mouse

No overlocking.

And I dont blame thrd party devs for not wanting to take part in GFW Live. MS would trying to control every aspect of patches, mods, etc, and kill the freedom that devs have been enjoying for years with pc games. Even Epic was beefing with MS for charging for additional maps for Gears. Although what another person said earlier is true. If u have a gold membership u automatically have GFW Live and u still just paying the $50 a year for the service which is a small price for using their service to be honest.

exactly you dotn have to pay unless you wanna vs the console boys. and you dont they might be contagious :P If nobody will use it then tis already dead. probbly companies like EA will tho. Still making people sign up for anything sucks so i dont like it.
