Follow my advice, be willing to turn off vsync and antialising/supersampling. And your build cost will go down at least $150.

Also, unless you wanna Home Tjheater PC setup (hooked up to big HDTV in the living room, possibly using the occasional Gamepad 10-15 feet away), stick with a 180-300$ 24 inch LED like this:

For gaming up close at a desk, this guy works fine, plus, since its smaller, 1080p looks even clearer!

will the 4 gigs of ram be good enough?

jakerinobino
Yes. But if you can spare the extra 30$ get 2x 4GB if it'll ease your mind.

I think I could spare that. Could you post a link for it? I'd find it myself but Im afraid id get something that woudnt work with the rest of the system or wasnt the best bang for the buck

Sorry for bumping this, last question I promise.

I decided I might fork out a little extra cash and get a 580.

Will I be able to use the same psu, and well basically everything that was already in the rig with the gtx 580? basically just removing the 6970 and keeping everything else the same.

ive always thought buying the most high end video cards werent worth it. The 580 gtx is only a few frames faster than the 6970 or the 570. For example i bought my 460 gtx for $100
