Building gaming specific rig....

At the moment I'm using an all round machine; but I would rather keep this rig for work purposes. Instead of upgrading this rig I would be looking to build a medium-high end rig at the end of the year (christmas). How much should I be looking to spend (in GBP please) and what kind of parts should I be looking at?

I would say around 411-515 GBP. That is assuming PC parts are roughly the same price as they are here in America.

As far as the parts I would go with an Intel Dual or quad core. The q6600 has really good OC abilities, as for the motherboard I would suggest going with a nvidia 750i chipset, either the MSI board or the EvGA FTW. Video I would say the 8800gts (g92). I would not bother with a sound card as the mobo has pretty good onboard. The case of course is personal preference. I like the NZXT and CoolerMaster cases. As for the power supply around 650watts should be plenty, even if you decide to go SLI, dont beleive that whole you have to have 1000watts crap.

6 months from now, that's impossible to say. I'd plan around £1000- £1500 or so (including the monitor, speakers, mouse, and keyboard), but that depends on what's on the market around Christmastime.

Specific parts selection is pointless right now, there are so many things planned between now and then that anything other than a case and peripherals will likely be outdated 6 months from now.

They're not anywhere near the same price. For a full build you're looking at £800 minimum right now for a decent setup, possibly more.

And component selection is worthless since this rig isn't being built for six months.

Yeah, for UK prices don't even bother converting it.... just change the $ sign to a £ sign and you got your price. It sucks
