hey guys, I'm building a new computer and buying it this weekend. I got to get it built before school starts, and maybe give my old one to my sister before uni starts for her. The reason why i'm doing it now is because the g92 is just a refreash and not really the next best thing, also **** I just wana play games now, you've served me well 5500 but its time we move on. well here is a computer I built just tell me if its the right buy and if I should go with a HD 2900 or a 8800 GTS 640mb. Oh and I'm playing on a 1280x1024 screen, I would change it but my parents just bought it for christmas and I would feel really guilty if I did, oh and my budget is $1600-1700 max canadian with taxes.

If you don't like to pay taxes, try www.NCIX.com or even better www.DirectCanada.com (assuming you don't live in BC) and there is no PST for out of province orders. Direct Canada also has free shipping on orders over $300.

For that resolution definatly get 8800 GTS 320MB. Best value for that resolution. 2900XT IMO is overkill there.

yeah I know its cheaper with ncix but I live in toronto not BC. also the 2900 is a little overkill but I'm thinking it will last longer than the 320mg gts.

if you are looking to save money, get the 8800 GTS, unless you get a better monitor the 2900 won't be much use.

That was kinda the point... I live near Toronto too and order from NCIX/DirectCanada so I don't have to pay PST.

Just noticed that you want to build this weekend... I guess that kills the mail order option.

Best of luck with the build... you should be happy with your system on either the 8800GTS or 2900.

8800 GTS should last just as long as 2900XT. Of course ATi champion has more futurepoof technologies, but when they will come in use 2900XT will probably be to slow to decently run those games that use that technologies. Your choice, but as poster above sad you will be happy whit both.

2900xt is extreme overkill. The 320mb will last until the 8800 series is obsolete at that res.
